Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

Yes he can. He is the commisioner. And if he see's cheating going on he can stop it, disipline those that have and if there is signs of past taping as im sure Belichick has acknowledged.....he can order the tapes to be turned over if he wants.

You people are ignorant if you think he doesnt have that power and this has ANY relation to a power play of the president of the US.

I thought somebody posted in here that you east coasters were smarter than those who were "surfers" because the schools are better.

This doesnt seem to be the case with the UTTER ridiculous statements i have seen in here.

Get a clue Patsie fans. Since you dont, i guess ill have to provide it for you.

Few of the many passionate and hard-working posters here have chosen to brag about their education, and fewer have had access to the elite education provided by many of the New England institutions of higher ed. Mistakes and blindness are part of the package when dealing with a lifetime of love and fandom. So why do you care? You're in our living room now...and have contributed nothing but mud and vomit to the discussions.

You seem smart, I'll admit, and don't seem like a typical stupid surfer...but you are very nasty, and repulsive, like a mosquito or termite. Buzz off.

I'm sure those notes from Butch Davis and his audible scheme to run William Green sweep right from 2004 are really relevant in the fall of 2007.

There is so much turnover in the NFL that notes from 3 years ago are pretty much worthless. If a coach was actually with his same team that long ago, its a surefire sign that he is smart enough to be changing his signs by game since he is winning games and keeping his job.

Lets talk about football.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

What strikes me is that there was no mention of further requirements of the Patriots, or a risk of more punishment for lack of delivery, when the sentence was publicly placed on the infraction.
Did Goodell have second thoughts about the punishment he already handed out?
Is he trying to further embarass the franchise?
Or was this all supposed to be kept quiet?
I suspect yet another leak of this deal that Goodell wanted to get all tapes from the Estrella gig and ,hopefully, call it a day.
Shoulda been kept quiet.
But of course that's not the MO of the Goodell team.
There's no telling what he's up to.

as per Mort this is what goodell has privately told the patriots.

Re: Mortensen: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape, more penalties possible

BB should destroy everything, hand over nothing. Otherwise it will be leaked through Goodell's office to the press. Wreck the CBA, ruin this inbred buffoon.

Goodell is on some very tenuous legal ground here. I think BB should turn what he has in, after making copies of everything, and then make Goodell get a search warrant to prove that the material was copied. He can't do that, of course. He may think he can, but there's a little thing called the rule of law.

Mort is a POS, too, by the way. He's lovin every minute of this.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

People keep forgetting the league already addressed this, whether Mort's sources like it or not.

"Estrella will not be punished, league spokesman Greg Aiello said, adding that there is no investigation into claims that the Patriots have been doing this for years.

“Our goal is to stop this type of conduct going forward and level the playing field,” Aiello said.

Competition is a biatch. As a result Mort is becoming one of the premier rumor mongers in the business. There are a lot of people out there who do not want this to be over. Beats the hell out of everyone focusing on your teams performance. Mort is pushing their agenda. There are also a lot of people out there who are getting sick and tired of the hypocracy. Many of them are in or destined for the HOF.

It's over, except for the explanation Goodell eventually has to provide Kraft for the leaked video. The pandoras box Ratgenius opened is getting unwieldy to the point Goodell will have to slap a lid back on it lest it take down a lot more than one HOF lock HC so many in this league are jealously obcessed with eliminating. Bill isn't going anywhere.

Maybe if I just keep reposting this someone other than Bella will actually READ IT.

I will add to that the wailing about audio signals is nothing but that - the league controls the equipment, they are responsible for it's performance, it malfunctions at lots of venues BB isn't within a thousand miles of, and as a seperate and distinct issue it would take a lot more than some crybaby complaining months or years after the fact to ever open an investigation on anything like that. Let alone one by the crack security staff that couldn't find evidence of any other NFL dog fighters or the league sources the US Attorney apparently abused with good reason...

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

I believe the last part of Goodell's statement indicates that he would be looking into the past taping program of the patriots. Did I read wrong? How did everyone think that this would happen, other than by requesting the tapes, as a Commissioner entitled to do, and as he said he was going to do. All that is being added is a reported threat of penalty if the team does not cooperate with the Commissioner in exacting his original plan as stated. We hoped that it was all over; it clearly is not.

I expect that all existing tapes will be turned over, in a formal fashion. I also suspect that some tapes should have already beeb destroyed. All should have been copied (but that should have been done long ago; no one should have no copies of important documents).

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

I only reply to the repulsive posts i see in here. You people are crying foul over nothing. The commish has ordered cheating videos to be returned. Whats the big fuss?

He has that right and it should be complied with. Its no different than a player getting suspended for 4 games for taking an illegal substance ( such as Rodney) and then having to submit random testing for a cetain amount of time or for the duration of their career.

You know damn well if this happened to any other team, you would be saying everything is deserved and be calling them cheaters.

You would have benefited from some basic education. Ad hominem attacks (such as that) are more repulsive than faulty reasoning.

If you had taken advantage of an education other than provided by the local YMCA, you'd have been able to see that for most of these posters there is immense confusion over what is being asked for. Some people have said give nothing, others don't know what to do, and many want to hand over the Estrella tapes and be done with it. It's actually pretty simple, for a complex mess.

Chargers should not be throwing stones over steroids, Whatever foolish NE fans may have gloated about last year when Merriman was caught, and *****ed about it, or when others admitted to cheating with impunity, those fans have had to eat their words. Keep it up here, and so will you, as SD will, at some point, eff up again. It's guaranteed.

I don't think you read wrong. I think it needs further clarification.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

And I think Goddell will do so with a couple of hours.

Yeah, he just might.

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

Id say the only confusion here is that YOUR team got caught and never expected this sort of thing and now it is being penalised. Again, if this happens to any other team, you people are calling them cheaters and say it is deserved.

The only problem is it did happen to another team. The Dolphins last freaking season. There players were freaking bragging about it.

Yet nothing!

Barely any press, the NFL just says it's part of the game.

Happens to the Pats, it's freaking Armegeddon, so enough of the BS.

If this were any other team, this would not be the circus that it is.

Even when the Colts where turning up the heat in the visiting locker room and pumping crowd noise through the loadspeaker, nothing.

Again the only reason for this circus is that it's the Pats, and they have a coach who pisses the media off.

Now the media has there chance and they are going full bore.

The Patriots cheated, got caught and is being disiplined.

Easy M5W, you seem so worked up you might blow out your flip flop on a pop top.

I wouldn't worry about east coast/west coast. I'm sure Dude U holds up with Zoo Mass. I lived in SD and found it a good football town.

I find the use of the word "cheating" silly. Stealing signs is ok and not "cheating", but using video tape to do so is some sort of monumental jump into "cheating"?

If Goodell wants the tapes, give him the tapes. Let him come out and state his "steal signs all you want, but never with video tape" policy. I don't think that goes with his statement that the Pats broke "longstanding rules designed to encourage fair play and promote honest competition on the playing field,"

Stealing signs is "fair play" and "honest" but using videotape to do so is so much different?

I love his "long standing" line too. Today, Jimmy Johnson said he was trained the to do the exact same thing with the Chiefs. Decades ago. But that wasn't "cheating" I guess.

Obviously it wasnt to the extreme as this is. There is tape that the commish saw of your cheating and this is also his first year as commisioner so what happened last year he cant do anything about it but he CAN give out warnings...which he did and Bellicheat STILL kept it up. Bellicheats understudy(Saban) isnt at Miami anymore .

So whats the big fuss? You guys just dont get it.
Last year is last year and Goodell wasnt the commish last year and the only thing Tagliaboob cared about is getting money for TV contracts and malfuctions at the SB shows.

Its a new era now and he is dishing out punnishment that he can in HIS era.

There's no BS here but you guys will do your best to spin some.

Re: WTF...It's Not Going Away...

I must admit, I am absolutely FURIOUS with this news! Who on earth ever heard of handing down a penalty after the issue was fully reviewedand 3 days later, release information the that the case is not closed?

Here' my take on all this. Fans, the media and Gooddell are pissed off that BB didn't act humbled. Did he owe it to anyone to act humble? Of course not! But me feeling is that Goodell thought "Why this arrogant sob, how dare he not be humiliated!" So he decides to investigate further? AFTER he said the issue was fully investigated and hands down his decision.

What a coward and a slime. That is like a judge handing down a decision and the defendant says "big woop" and 3 days later he decides to re-open the case...total BS.

That's a Jimmy Buffett reference. From "Margaritaville". It's a laid-back song, and he was gently chiding* you, but your own reaction seems to underscore his point.

*chide, verb: to scold or rebuke s.o. (in a formal manner)

I'm sorry...who was the Comish last year.:bricks:

Another savant. :bricks:

Re: Mort: Goodell orders Patriots to turn over all tape/notes, more penalties possibl

Coach should go to a major publisher and get a $500k advance to write a book about the inner workings of the NFL upon his retirement from the league. Let the publisher announce it as a "tell all" and have coach keep mum about it.

Endorse the advance check over to the league and send it in to pay the fine.

Wait and see how much more pressure the commish wants to put on Coach, given that he can write a book that would make this "scandal" look like a singalong at a campfire.
