Looks like the layoffs are regular folks and not the camera-facing oxygen thieves.

The statement from Skipper to ESPN employees:

Today we are informing approximately 150 people at ESPN that their jobs are being eliminated.

We appreciate their contributions, and will assist them as much as possible in this difficult moment with severance, a 2017 bonus, the continuation of health benefits and outplacement services. They will also appreciate your support.

The majority of the jobs eliminated are in studio production, digital content, and technology and they generally reflect decisions to do less in certain instances and re-direct resources.

We will continue to invest in ways which will best position us to serve the modern sports fan and support the success of our business.

high fives all around.

This layoff affects normal people who have families that depend on that paycheck. Not people under multi-year contracts who are now getting paid to stay home. Sounds like ESPN is giving generous severance, but yikes this hurts right as the holidays roll around.

If there are any ESPN'ers on the Patsfans boards, I'm hoping the best for you and your colleagues. Losing a job you wanted to stay in sucks.

I still like PTI & Around the Horn. I just don't see the need for Jemele Hill to have a show. She's boring.

ESPN MNF has really gone downhill without Tirico. McDermott doesn't do it for me.

Stephen A. Smith can get on my nerves but he's gotten better. Furthermore, Steohen A. has never been a Patriots hater.Kellerman doesn't engage as well as Bayless. Molly ( Just like Joy on undisputed), is eye candy. Albeit, very very nice eye candy.

I still like PTI & Around the Horn. Otherwise, it's garbage.
I think you mean Martini McDonough. I don't mind him. Hes cynical.

Remember, these layoffs are the direct result declining audiences for pro football that ESPN has to pay the NFL $15.2 Billion for the rights to "Monday Night Football" and unlimited highlight footage. ESPN blew it when they agreed to that deal, and the NFL could care less as long as they get their money. These rank-and-file employees should feel good about the fact that Roger Goodell and the 32 will be richly rewarded for degrading the quality of the product they have to share with ESPN's viewers.

I think I’ve only watched one Monday night football this season and that’s about it. Their commentators lawl me to sleep. Their pre-show sucks without Boomer, just looks like a cheap ass pre show. Before they use to do it mostly in studio, now they are on the road...who do you think is paying for those highly paid analysts? Yep the smaller folks that are being laid off.

Sportcenter was worth watching when Stuart Scott was running it, these days it flat out sucks.
I do however enjoy some of their 30 for 30 content.

It’s more likely than not

This is what happens when you alienate 50% of the country with spouting political views at every turn. Had ESPN (and the NFL and its players for that matter because the 2 are intertwined financially) stayed neutral and out of politics, we wouldn't be seeing half filled stadiums, declining viewership, and declining ad revenue (for ESPN)...
