Monday Night Football: Atlanta Falcons at San Francisco 49ers - game preview and pick

Re: Monday Night Football: Atlanta Falcons at San Francisco 49ers - game preview and

Pass interference calls get more ludicrous by the minute. They've got to become reviewable somehow.

In the refs' defense, that penalty must be really tough to call in the split-second it happens. Especially with how sophisticated the defenders are at hiding it and the receivers are at faking it.

Pretty epic ending even though I wanted Atlanta to pull it off.

Absolutely agree. I think the refs would be OK with reviews as well. I believe they want to get the calls right. I think our access to equally sophisticated replays makes it more frustrating as fans. It's hard to tell in live action speed if some calls are correct. The multiple replays from different angles reveal poor calls and when my team is on the "screwed end"of the calls, I'm wild. When we're on the beneficiary side, I'm just GD happy and not the least bit guilty.

Atlanta's been a top team for years, and just suffered through a bizarre and unexpected collapse. Jones, the player Dimitroff coveted, has been a tremendous receiver. Baldwin, the player BB commented on as an alternative, has been a bust. Also, there's a team option for a 5th year on that contract.

BB got it wrong.

The trade wasn't Baldwin for Julio, it was 5 picks for Julio (or anyone they want at #6). While Watt and Aldon Smith would have been good picks, what we can be sure of is that right now those picks would have been more helpful than Jones has ever been. Atlanta at 13-3 was a top team before Julio with a top receiver in White. What I see is not very bizarre and unexpected. The idea of trading away your top picks for two years to get a WR would create a pretty expected result if that player gets injured. Now not only are they without all those picks but without who they traded them for. Meanwhile Julio has not been a top 10 receiver and his best season made Edelman like production. Since the 5th year option for top ten picks is essentially a franchise tag I highly doubt they make that move unless something changes next year, like at least becoming the best WR on his own team.

BB told him not to trade for Jones because Baldwin was an equivalent, essentially. BB was wrong. He was very wrong.

"All those picks" were the first they swapped, a late first, a late second and two late fourths.

You make that trade for elite talent, which is what Jones is.

I'm not sure what planet you live on, but on the planet Earth, Julio Jones is clearly the best WR on his team, and is one of the best receivers in the NFL. The Falcons aren't letting him walk away.

I share their pain obviously. I honestly feel that the 08 Patriots had a legitimate shot in the playoffs if they had made it. Instead the much less worthy Dolphins got in and they we're quickly bounced in the first round. I remember the Cassel-led Pats destroying the Arizona Cardinals late in the season, who would end up representing the NFC in the Super Bowl.

Sad end to that season.
