[Mod Edit:] Board Issues/Reaction Issues Thread

Not open for further replies.
Funny you say safe space while Team Bill cries to the mods all day.

Ian, Cwaaaahammah is hurting my feelings.

I’ve yet to see anyone outside Team Bill whine to the mods and ask for special intervention.
I don't care about what side of the fence people sit on. Neither @Ross12 nor myself have locked people out of threads or restricted any discussion on that, in nearly a year.

My lone issue - which unfortunately has become a big problem - is bringing up the same argument in multiple threads and working it into every discussion.

But I'm shooting down this mention, which seems to be something people keep complaining about. Yes, there are disagreements at a peer level about Belichick, I can't control how people feel/respond about that. But neither myself or Ross - the only two active mods on here currently - care where people fall and wouldn't punish people for those opinions.

Neither of us has previously restricted discussion on that topic until I only recently asked @1960Pats to hit pause on starting another thread discussing a topic that has already been beaten to death on here. Obviously, after the season, there will be new material for that.

That's the first and only action I can recall about that topic. Aside from that, there haven't been any other times I'm aware of where the two of us stepped into any discussions, removed people from threads, etc.

And that’s not negatively directed at you @Ice_Ice_Brady. You bringing it up just made me want to clarify that as you’re not the only person to suggest it.

I have yet to see anyone identify who, exactly, comprises this alleged "Team Bill" (a/k/a "IBWT crowd") the Tampa Bay ghetto refugees keep carping about. It seems conjured so Brady devotees have boogeymen handy to vent their bitterness toward. With Tom now retired there simply is no point to perpetuating the nonsensical Brady vs. Belichick argument. That is, assuming those who do it are Patriots fans -- a questionable assumption, sadly enough.

It's really simple. And it's not open for discussion, and I can't even believe I have to make this clear.
I acknowledged multiple times here and in PM that it's entirely your call...
Obviously this is your forum so you can run it whichever way you think is best and the members will have to accept it.
But I understand it's not up to me. I'm just given my POV.
I get he can run his site as he sees fit but I also think it's fair for members to voice their opinions (concurring or dissenting) and they shouldn't be muted (unless they're being purposely offensive).
I don't have a problem with @Ian, I may not like or agree with some of the MB features, but he's obviously a gracious host
But whatever, you attack it however you choose, and to whatever degree @Ian permits
None of us are perfect, so I suppose we all could contribute more constructively, which individually we can take responsibility for, and @Ian will take care of the rest.
But, the only way the Tom v Bill debates are going away entirely is if it's forced through Mod intervention, which of course is @Ian's prerogative.
...so it's clear to me.

Plus this quote...
I'm sure @Ian will institute this ASAP. Right after he recruits the 25 new mods needed to keep up.
In no way am I challenging or questioning your rightful authority on your forum. I was specifically commenting on the imo unfeasible suggestion of another poster. Not once have I or would I ever tell you that you can't implement any rule or feature.

I've been nice. I've been patient. We're not doing this any further. If you can't control yourself and refrain from reverting to that argument in every thread, then unfortunately, your time here may be limited.
You've got 25 pages in the Volin thread already, mostly consisting of Brady and Belichick related topics. And it's hardly me perpetuating the discussions, for the most part I tried stepping out of it. But too, for clarification sake, is that the type of thread where you would permit those ongoing discussions? Especially given the OP. It seems like an acceptable spot for...
Don't keep reverting to the same arguments in thread after thread. If you feel the need, go back and discuss it in an open topic

No - it's a discussion board that frowns upon the same discussion showing up in thread after thread and making quite a few of them go off the rails. And unfortunately, it's gone far beyond "just scrolling past." There have been other threads where it's required scrolling past multiple pages in hundreds of posts.

I've set the rules.

I've asked nicely - more times than I can count.

I've put in place ways for people to deal with this, but those tools were designed to be used on a realistic level. Same for mods, who have to deal with it.

I'm not going to deal with the whataboutisms for a problem that is being caused by a handful of people, yourself included. This should have been a PM - you decided to make it public, and I hope others who fall into this category read this and find that I'm well past putting up with it - and I won't - heading into the season.

Don't keep reverting to the same arguments in thread after thread. If you feel the need, go back and discuss it in an open topic (I already told you this). If you do, or if someone else does, I will remove you from that thread. If you argue with me about it, then I will remove you further.

And this is a closed-ended statement.
That’s the nature of discourse, though. Especially when the subject matter is a single team and it’s the part of the offseason where there’s no new team-related stuff to discuss. People talk about different things, at different times, in different places.

Imagine talking to someone in real life over the course of days, or even weeks, and, every time you talk to that person, you talk about the same thing, sticking strictly to the original subject matter without any sidebar. Over and over. Pretty weird, IMO. That would be like two ChatGPT bots talking to one another. So why would you expect that to be the case here? Especially when it’s never been the case? Threads have always gone “off the rails” and devolved into two people arguing.

You’ve given people the tools they need to make that stop. You’ve invested time and money into it. If they’re so addicted to being outraged that they come up with every excuse under the Sun to not use them, that’s on them. You’re trying to please the people who ***** and squeal the loudest in your DMs. You cannot please those people. It’s impossible.

This, THIS, and ****ing THIS.

Here’s a good Litmus Test - would this “problem” even happen if the team were winning? If no, then you have the root cause. People have attached themselves more to parts of the team than the team as a whole, dug in, and now they’re having a harder time defending that position than they have previous years. The fix is not to try and please those people. They can’t be pleased because they’re missing something in their lives, and their complaints are just a manifestation of what they’re lacking. In that case? They need to use the tools they’ve been given to make themselves feel better and shut the **** up about it.

I am an admitted Belichick knob gobbler, but I think you've got this backwards. The people who flinch at the mention of the word Brady kind of demanded that this part of the board needed to be their safe place in the good old days of the pink hat moderatrix.
Threads that turn into Brady circle jerks are not the mere mention of Brady.

We could start a thread about the renovations at Gillette and one of the Brady safe spacers will derail it and talk about how much better the beer tasted when Tom was around, how it cured blindness and how watered down it is now because BB is a meanie who hates the blind.

When the team went on a winning streak in 2021 and ESPN analysts were calling them AFC favorites, most of the Brady zealots disappeared to the safe space of their own personal Brady pages so they wouldn’t have to eat crow... and only reappeared when the season ended poorly.

They didn’t want to discuss how football existed for 100 years before Tom and how it will continue on long after him.

I suspect if the Pats start dominating opponents this season, we’ll have to invade the Brady-verse and make you all read about BB’s greatness. Even if most of us don’t believe football can be reduced to one person and it’s a team effort. But it would be only fair.

You are not wrong about the circle jerks.

My point was that I don't recall any Bradyites demanding a safe space. It was the people who were triggered by them who demanded this space be kept safe. It was those people who demanded a separate forum place for "Brady fans".

I got banned from an "Other Games" thread and told I am not a real Patriots fan by the pink hat Moderatrix. My crime? I said I was rooting for Brady to win every game he plays with the Bucs unless they play the Pats. She cleared the safe space for her whiny minions.

As can seen in my signature, Belichick is my #2 greatest person ever. I want him to be coach here until he dies. But you're wrong about who needed a safe space.

Yeah, that never happened. If that makes you feel better about your life, your personality, and the amount of energy you devote to something as innocuous as a pro football team, then by all means - rage on. The problem is everyone else. It’s definitely not you. You’re perfection. Don’t let them tell you otherwise.

As I recall, the Brady forum anchored by the Tampa Bay thread was created by Ian at request of Deus Irae.

I have said all along that there's a fairly large swath of fans that think they are Pats fans, but are really just fans of winning.

If that's true, then I stand corrected, and ONE person requested a safe space.

However, I do recall many people whining for moderators to close threads, ban posters, etc.

And when the team's not winning, they're fiercely devoted to whining.
