Mitchell returns.

Cooks, Hogan, Mitchell, Amendola, Dorsett, and Britt is a very nice and diverse collection of talent at WR. Then you add Gronk, Lewis and Burkhead.... nasty.

I know it’s sad to say, but... just imagine if we had Edelman too

Give Mitchell his three weeks, to let him get some work in and to cover for possible need. If nobody gets hurt to the point of an IR trip, shut Mitchell down when the three weeks are up.

Seems like a sensible use of the rules, to me.

Who is he replacing?
My guess would be someone going to IR?

Unless Hogan is worse than anybody lets on I think this is a pure hedging your bets move. They have until the first playoff game to activate him and until then he doesn't count against the roster limit.

It is a classic low risk, high value move because it doesnt require any additional roster moves. BB gives himself time to see how Britt does, if any additional injuries occur, how Hogan is healing up and also where Mitchell is with his body before making any decision.

He might as well end up on IR without being activated once his timer runs out.

Mitchell gets up to three weeks to practice with the team on a roster exemption ...
- this week
- the BYE week
- the week leading up to the divisional round game

Until Mitchell is required to be activated to the 53-man, the Pats can keep all of Hogan, Dorsett and Britt.

Hogan may or may not heal enough to avoid IR.
Britt may or may not learn enough of the playbook to be useful.
Mitchell may or may not be able to get back up to full speed.

Beat me to it by about a minute.

Dorsett is due for the Foxborough flu. I would rather have Mitchell over him if he's ready.

Maybe I'm being a bit of a downer, but I'd like to see what he can do on the field and see if that knee holds up a few quarters at least before I get too excited. Assuming he is ready to go, then it can't hurt to have him out there. If he can play this weekend, I say put him in and let him knock off some rust.

It Hogan didn't aggravate his injury against Miami and both he and Mitchell can play, they should play some snaps this weekend.
I think we've seen the last of Hogan in the regular season. I don't think we'll see him again until Divisionals. I could be wrong, of course. And I absolutely agree with you on Mitchell. If he can go this weekend, I say put him in and play him a lot.

I have to wonder ... if Edelman hadn't gotten injured when he did (and assuming that Mitchell was headed to IR anyway), the Pats might have felt more comfortable keeping Carr and never traded Brissett for Dorsett. And, of course, they probably wouldn't have signed Britt at all.

Reinforcements for the playoffs:

-Hogan
-Mitchell
-Harrison
-Van Noy
-Branch

That’ll be huge!

Love the reinforcements on D more especially the Harrison addition.

Awesome. Can’t wait to see Mitchell back on the field. Him and Brady developed some real chemistry in the latter part of last season.

I would wager Croston would get the axe. He’s been inactive practically all season long and would be a sure bet to go unclaimed.

That’s if Hogan even comes back...

I said in the practice news thread that I fear Hogan may have aggravated his shoulder injury. I hope that's not the case.

Cooks
Hogs
DA
MM
Britt
Dorsett

Something's gotta give.
