Another week, another loss for the Titans. I know that they've had QB problems (and OL it seems), but they're wildly inconsistent, even defensively at times (though that's mostly today's NFL). So, what do you think happens to Vrabel if they fail to make the playoffs? Does he get another season, maybe if only to see if they can get a real QB, or do they swing the ax?

As one of my all-time favorites I hope he's given another season. He has a mostly solid team, though heavily skewed to the defensive side. They just seem to collectively be underachieving at various positions. It's definitely not looking good for them.

Tough defense, but they pretty much suck on offense. They’re QB-needy and will likely look to the draft again. I think Vrabel’s good for next year unless they end up with a terrible record or other weird circumstances.

Vrabel, along with Flores, and probably Patricia are just finding out how difficult it is to be a HC in the NFL and how hard it is to create a winning culture when you come into a place that's already acquired a lot of bad habits and gets fixed in its own ways. And even more difficult when you're not given the autonomy to get rid of bad culture.

It's also very difficult when you have a GM who's not on the same page as you, and the owner doesn't care or wants to double down on the mistakes they make, such as drafting a QB who just doesn't prosper at this level.

The sunk-cost fallacy is a common phenomenon in business and IMO is something that has carried over to the NFL where the majority of owners are businessmen very used to throwing money at problems.

I’m not a tannehill fan by any means but I feel a change at qb is needed for them. I’ve given up on Mariota and as a previous poster said they need to target qb next April.

Marriot is a Bum.

Im not impressed with his hotels either.

Vrabel was barely even a DC before becoming HC. He could have benefitted from more years learning first.

Then you’ve never been to the London Marriott Park Lane.

I can’t say it enough : our society is SO obsessed with crowning young QBs, that all reason is out the window... why do people need to jump on limited success to make bold statements ? It’s insane. Haven’t we learned from RGIII and others ?

Almost all young QBs since 2012 have been trash. And those that have had success (Luck, Mahomes) were anointed way too early.

I’m not so sure Vrabel is that good of a coach. I think he’s the new Jeff Fisher complete with the stache.

Mariota stinks and both need a fresh start. I’d go to KC if I were him and learn from Reid and maybe he’ll make something of himself.

Mariota may not be the guy but their OL is completely horrible. Hard for any QB to succeed with that kind of protection

This is when things get really awkward. What do you do when the team that the GM built is clearly a problem, but the head coach that the GM hired may or may not be? Do they fire Robinson and tell GM candidates that they have to keep Vrabel around? Fire both even though the offensive personnel never really gave Vrabel a chance at success this year?

Mariota is very much in the same position as Alex Smith was after 5 seasons. He's a guy with the talent to at least be OK, he's got a good attitude and works hard, but he's been through so many offensive schemes and played on so many terminally flawed rosters in a short period of time that he's kind of just toast.

Mariota hasn't played with a single good wide receiver. It literally never happened in 5 years. And it's not all on him because none of them did anything when they left the Titans either, they were all just career scrubs. His best passing weapon ever was a B grade receiving tight end who regularly misses 1/3 of his starts every year and hit 1,000 yards exactly once. This year they're averaging giving up 5 sacks per game, which again you can't put on Mariota entirely because he has had normal sack rates in 2015-2017, the pass protection has just been garbage.

True Mariota had had garbage receivers his whole career so far. He should push for a good WR.

Those aren't the cases in either Tennessee or Detroit.

Fair point but that didn't stop Brady or Garrapolo.

Fair point but that didn't stop Brady or Garrapolo.

I mean Brady is the biggest outlier in professional sports history. The argument is that Mariota could have been developed into something better, not that he's a GOAT peer. And Garoppolo is completely unproven at this point so let's pump the brakes until he's actually played a season without dying.

Plus Chris Hogan circa 2016-2017 was better than any WR that Mariota has ever played with. He's basically had the 2013 Patriot tier WR corps, which even Brady couldn't entirely work around.
