They have been roughly a .500 team and got much worse this offseason with the Suh signing/letting a bunch of good players get away.

The storyline going around this morning is that he wore regular sneakers instead of cleats to a padded practice because he hates Kevin Coyle's defense.

If that is the case, glad the Pats would never touch that guy unless they got him in similar fashion they got Albert Haynesworth where they could dump him at any time with no cap ramifications. Suh is a ticking timebomb.

At least the guy was honest on why he signed with MIA: "I would say money was the most important factor" in making this decision."

When you pay average QBs $20M a year you get yourself fired. If your names aren't Brady, Rodgers, Manning, Brees, Wilson, Roethlisberger and Luck you should not be paying a QB more than $17M a year. Veterans who don't get injured like Ryan, E Manning, Flacco, and Cam should be between $12-16M a year. All other teams should be making sure to draft and develop QBs and if their QB wants big time money walk away because you will never win with them.

Tannenhill, Cutler, Kaep, Romo, Stafford, Smith, Dalton, Rivers, Bradford and Foles are all over $12M and you can never win with these guys (maybe Romo and Rivers can take you to the playoffs, but Romo is always hurt and Rivers looks old now) and you might as well build a strong team around them.

I never bought the whole "he still learning the position" storyline. People just thought he would just keep on getting better and better because he played so little at QB in college. But he has been a starter in the NFL for three years going into this season. Sure, he didn't play a lot in college, but three years starting in the NFL is a long time and few QBs improve significantly after that long. The amount of time he played QB in college is irrelevant at this time.

Sure Brady is a much better QB than he was in 2003 or 2004, but he is the exception to the rule. And that is because he is insanely disciplined to consistently try to work on his weaknesses.

And so when Ndamukong Suh, the team’s highest-paid player, wore sneakers to a full-padded practice during the week, other players noticed. They took it as a sign Suh was making a statement of dissatisfaction over the defensive coaching.

Suh and the other linemen hated that the four man front was two-gapping rather than one-gapping, which actually is right. Suh is far better off one-gapping, as that is particularly suited to his skillset. Of course he could have communicated that in a more mature way.

But it is mind-boggling what a breakdown that was in communication and cohesive vision from top to bottom, and shows how much of that organization isn't on the same page. You don't sign a one-gapper to a $114m contract and immediately force him to two-gap. That is sheer lunacy and idiocy on the coaching for forcing a square peg into a round hole and on ownership for not interfering and setting things straight.

Dolphins just guaranteed that they are definitely non-contenders for this year and 2016, as Suh's cap hit for 2016 is a mind-boggling $28.6m. Absolutely don't expect him to accept renegotiating that.

Suh's cap numbers:

2015: 6.1 M
2016: 28.6 M (would lose 53 M in dead money and lose 25 M against cap if cut)
2017: 15.1 M (would lose 25 M in dead money and lose 10 M against cap if cut)
2018: 22.1 M (would lose 10 M in dead money and save 12 M on cap if cut)
2019: 24.1 M (would lose 5 M in dead money and save 19 M on cap if cut)
2020: 18.4 M (would not lose any dead money and would save all 18.4 M if cut)

So in other words, they are 100% stuck with him in 2016, very likely stuck with him in 2017, and it would be tough to walk away from the contract in 2018 but could be necessary.) Based on the contract structure, this looks like in reality a four-year deal with an out after three years if they decide his value is worth less than 12 M for that year.

The best part is, of course, that Suh is only counting 6.1 against the cap for this year. The giant black hole that is his contract will not even start destroying the team until next year. The fun hasn't even started yet.

I agree about you don't overpay for a top of the market player and force him to play in a system that doesn't fit his skills. It was the same in Tampa with Revis where they forced him to play zone most of the time where he is the best man to man CB in the league.

I swear that many teams just want to get the shiny expensive toys and don't even look to see if they are a scheme fit. But we are talking about Mike Tannebaum shopping for the groceries. This is the same guy who drafted Mark Sanchez and Vernon Gholston high in the first round.

People were so enamored with the Suh signing this offseason to notice that they really gutted this team in the offseason and replaced some of their better talent with substandard replacements (replaced Charles Clay with Jordan Cameron, replaced Mike Wallace with Kenny Stills). Even on this board when I brought it up, there were people who attacked me because the party line was that the Dolphins were getting rid of underperformers. In reality, they were getting rid of salary to afford Suh and Tannehill.

They had a pretty good DL in 2014 with Starks and Odrick. The unit had time together nad was playing good football. You don't gut that and bring in a known troublemaker like Suh for that kind of money! you develop replacements.

Also, they jettisoned Wallace, Gibson, Hartline and Clay. it's always tough for a QB to adjust to a lot of new receivers, particularly when he's not that good to begin with.

I was never in with that team this year. And looking at Suh's contract (OMG), next year will be worse.

Not that Philbin's departure makes all that much difference, but any chance Miami had of avoiding the crapper is now gone. That stadium will be a ghost town by mid-season.

On one hand Philbin does seem like a good guy, OTOH I question if a good guy can raise two such utter dirtbags for sons.
