Yeah, I am not that impressed with Bo Nix. At times and frequently in the season, he plays like a QB shouldn't even be on an NFL roster. I think with another playcaller and offensive coach, I think Nix would be mentioned more with Penix and McCarthy than Maye, Daniels, and Williams from that draft class.

McDaniels is a horrible head coach, but a great OC. He has done wonders with lesser QBs like Cassel, Jimmy G, Brissett, and Mac Jones. I think he is too low on the list. I would have him over Coen and Steichen. In fact, you could make an arguement that only Shannahan and McVey are better offensive coaches than McDaniels.

For many years McDaniels has been consistently outcoached against the better defenses in the league. Athletic defenses that are able to neutralize quick passes to the slot often stump him and you can see the confusion on his face and he doesn't have any creativity for the running game. If Tom wasn't "TOM BRADY" we would have been embarrassed against the Seahawks and Atlanta.

Our offensive line didn't hold up the entire playoffs but I thought with two weeks to plan that McDaniels would have a better showing in the superbowl but he looked completely unprepared. Maye's ability to run didn't even come into play. I put alot of our loss squarely on McDaniels. Ranking him in the top 10 is too high imo.

I will say this. Drake Maye had the most success against the Texans defense of any QB last year. Best passer rating and most passing TDs. Only the Seahawks and Jags scored more points on offense against the Texans last year.

His playoff record as OC is 21-9 (wonder how that ranks?), with 6 SB appearances (3-3).

I respect your opinions and I see your points. In summary I feel if/when we make another deep post season run this year Josh will be a hot HC candidate. I actually think should Josh leave the next OC is Todd downing.

McD is a great teacher of the QB position, and of offense overall. But his play-calling has Always been Below championship-caliber.

We can all go back and forth. Bottom line: He has been very successful here working with multiple QB’s. I am not sure any team wants to try the HC thing with him again. I am not sure he wants to try the HC thing again. He looks happy as hell being back here and working with Vrabel in this upbeat atmosphere. His family loves it here and calls it home. And yes he is a dynamic OC that knows how to teach. The rest is that green sprig of lettuce they put on top of your meal that you swat away

As Pats fans most of us have literally watched every play he's ever called for the Pats.

I have to assume fans of other teams have some criticisms for their OCs as well.

Telegraphing the run has been always been a legit criticism. Part of that was personnel driven.

The Super Bowl was disappointing for sure. Would have liked to see Campbell get more help on the edge and I firmly believe Ben Brown should have taken over at LG. Our entire O line struggled, though.

At times he looks like a football genius. Other times we cringe as we see goal line run after goal line run go nowhere leaving us with 3 points at best.

He's stubborn like that at times and it seems like he wants to run his gameplan whether its working or not, rather than adjust.

But the key difference this year may be personnel.

Mark my words, we're going to LOVE how McDaniels utilizes Romeo Doubs who can pretty much play every WR position including being a Welker-like slot receiver - but with the ability to go deep and do everything else.

Josh has been dreaming up ways to confound Ds with Doubs alone since signing him.

Then you've got the running game. Here again, the investments on the OL (fingers crossed Wilson is a better C than G) and Gilliam at FB are going to end our long suffering of short-yardage frustration, should all make for a much more productive run game

And a productive run game plus a better OL means Maye gets more time to throw - though he's been awfully accurate throwing on the run when too.

And of course, Maye probably IS our best RB and Josh already designs intentional run plays for him

And I haven't even gotten to what Brown means to the offense - stretching the field, and hopefully Josh will take advantage of any double coverage Brown gets and have Maye find the open man.

Honestly that's my only concern with McDaniels - now that he has Brown, will he abandon what's worked so well for him and Maye - specifically spreading the field and keeping Ds confounded? Brown had less catches than Diggs but on a LOT more targets last year. I'm just hoping they don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

I think this offense with all its talent, if used in a balanced way, could be better than the 2007 team, where we seemed to go to Welker and Moss on nearly every passing play, especially down the stretch, and Defenses caught on eventually.

Agreed. He absolutely sucked as a HC.
But a great OC. Though, I agree some of his play calling has pissed me off in the past.

Wow. Just… wow… Maybe because Maye had to get injected with pain killers due to injury, and McD didn’t want to risk permanently injuring the franchise? Does he get credit for getting Maye into a position to become one of the best in the league and getting the Pats into the SB?

If AVT can stay healthy, I think you will see a bigger jump in offensive play diversity next year when Onwenu and Moses are replaced with mobile guys - Lomu for one, the other not with the team yet. The OL mobility opens up a lot of play variation possibilities.

Raridan and Arken showing some early hope as a TE duo, passing and blocking, is encouraging as well. With 4 OL (including Lomu), the 3 TEs, and 3 or 4 RBs returning, the offense can hit the ground running in 2027 with a lot more athleticism.

You've got will Campbell arms on this one cap.

You're reaching, and it's not even close. Guy who's won championships is by definition championship caliber.

And the people ranking him below mcvay and Shanahan (2 head coaches, first of all, with all of one championship between them) is crazy to me. Too many people buying the NFL media slop.

Great coach/predictable vanilla play caller.

Josh has little in the way of schemed plays and trickery, screens, shovel passes, QB draws, RPO’s, counter runs, misdirection, pre-snap motion along with unique play design to get guys open and spread the ball around… it’s a virtual wasteland.

When a flea flicker is the only trick play in your bag, maybe it’s time to dust off the projector and watch some old film. He’s done it before, been inventive and varied, but only after some losses and loud criticism in the media. He’ll do it for a game or two, it will look impressive…. then he’ll slide back into the same boring Power-I run, run up the middle, and pass.

We’ll never be confused with the most eclectic offenses in the league. This offense has to have exceptional talent, it’s the only way it will score.

look, imo, it's pretty much common sense
the guy does nothing but win, when he is the OC. not every game of course.
but he is 168 and 58 over his career in NE as the OC, which correlates to approximately 16-6 over the course of 10 seasons
yet some here call him names, say he sucks, etc.
the resume speaks loudly.
