McCourty to play CB in SB???

It may not be this, but I think it could well be something, especially early. Atlanta has been so comfortable on offense, we need to make them uncomfortable. They will be prepared for all the standard looks. An off the wall look might not be totally sound - but has the advantage of creating some confusion. If NE gets early stops and a fast start - puts the Falcons in a bind.

I predict you will see 2 drives where Atlanta either goes 3 and out or moves the ball a little then punts where their timing looks off, a block gets blown QB and receiver seem not in the same page, a guy who got mauled on the los drops a pass, etc that will just look like bad offensive plays but will really be because of the mental game by the defense

I also think there is a chance that the int prone version if matt Ryan that we've seen for the majority of his career may surface again

McCourty lined up at CB covering Paul Richardson a few times against the Seahawks this year. It's not accurate to say that he hasn't done it in a year.

I would not be shocked to see him play some corner in some sets.

Do it! Confuse them, get in their head! Lets see the old Matt Ryan playoff QB

None of our safeties is fast enough to track ATL receivers all over the field.
Yeah...McCourty....a guy who runs a 4.4 and is the second best FS in the league....isn't fast enough to track ATL receivers....k

Insiders? I really doubt there are Pats insiders who would be leaking this, especially 2 days before the Super Bowl.

If we go with 5 DBs, this is a possibility with Harmon at FS.

Hi Jason Cole!! Say, pal ol' buddy...what's YOUR all time favorite NFL fan song???

Why try and fix something that isn't broke? For as much as ATL loves going deep I want DMac back there picking one off!

A majority at CB? Never happen unless special Dime packages are distinctly successful.
With that said I'm not sure why this would be dismissed out of hand. Ryan/Atl have been watching video after video of McCourty playing safety and MB/Ryan etc cover WRs. If we can mix up some series with personnel that throws off Ryan and gain a stop (or dare I say two)? That's friggin amazing!

Given the abilities of the two offenses manufacturing an extra stop(s) could very well be the difference in the game.
This game is 10 to 10 right now as in 10 possessions to 10 possessions (give or take). Basically there are 3 throw away for dropped pass, penalty, nerves, the likelihood of unforced stops. Now the game is 7 to 7.
Throw in two red zone stops and TDs scored on the rest that is 41 to 41 point score total (not factoring turnover scores). Add in stop by the Patriots means their max point potential now is 34. 2 stops and their point potential is 27.

If McCourty at CB for a series or a couple of special packages on third down can manufacture an extra stop(s) is, again, friggin amazing!

Not to be outdone by Barstool Sports and its ban from "Radio Row".... Bleacher report makes up crap so people can click on their site...

The so called news sites become the news.. 'nuff said..

And it may happen in the red zone. Ryan threw a LOT of picks in the red zone in 2015. I sincerely hope we see that again come Sunday.

Blount force trauma at TE and we go with 5 WRs. Lengel inactive.

He has been a guy who throws a decent amount of picks his whole career, but corrected it this year. To me that is the sign of a guy who has his offense running the way he wants and things unfold the way he expects. We all know BB will show him things to confuse him. Ryan has only seen a BB defense twice, 2009 and 2013, so there is a lot to show him that he wont expect.
In 09 he put up 10 points, in 13 they scored 23, but most of it in garbage time.
Before they took over down 30-13 at 6:18 in the 4th they had 8 drives, 1 TD, 2 FG, a pick, a turnover on downs, and 3 punts.
Before that Ryan, in 54 minutes was 23/35/227/1/1 and had 13 points on the board.
The 11/19/194/1/0 after that was against vanilla.

I think we will hear 'Ryan got confused by Belichicks defense' at least a bit on Sunday.

Another very interesting fact.

In that game Julio Jones, who was playing at as high a level as he is now, at 6:18 in the 4th, losing 30-13 had put up:

9 targets
3 catches
22 yards

In garbage time he added
4 target
3 catches
86 yards

for a total of 13/6/108

It looks like we totally shut him down that day until after the game was out of reach.
