Black coaches are not a new thing. The NFL has had black coaches for decades. And we've seen some very good ones for that matter. Is it? Think of it from his perspective. He is the first Black HC of one of the most successful NFL franchises while Black HCs are a tiny minority. He is proud of it as he should be. Same thing with a lot of firsts (e.g. first in family to graduate university, phd...). Just a milestone worth being proud of.
Don't think it's anymore than that. You are reading too much into it.
What? Making up stuff now?Black coaches are not a new thing. The NFL has had black coaches for decades. And we've seen some very good ones for that matter.
Him making such a big deal about his skin color and the skin color ratios and makeup of his team should be concerning. This could go very badly. If he's gonna get everyone focused on skin color first, instead of focusing on who they are as athletes and on the character within, this could create divisions. This is going to be bad if he does what he said in this interview
There have been very few black HC’s, it’s only recently that there is an uptick. And he didn’t make a “big deal” about it. He answered questions about it.Black coaches are not a new thing. The NFL has had black coaches for decades. And we've seen some very good ones for that matter.

There have been black head coaches for decades, but not in Boston.Black coaches are not a new thing. The NFL has had black coaches for decades. And we've seen some very good ones for that matter.

HmmStop being dishonest
Probably true on that.Hmm
I suggest that he believes every word.
That is the environment that we live in.
Mayo thinks the world should look like the locker room. And he's talking skin color. What? Making up stuff now?
He is the first in Pats history so yes a big deal to him. He cannot be proud of that in a press conference that is supposed to be in part celebrating his accomplishment of attaining such a position?
Mayo did say he was hired to be a "black" coach. His whole speech was weird and raises big red flags. Interesting that he emphasized his skin color as one of the first thingsThere have been very few black HC’s, it’s only recently that there is an uptick. And he didn’t make a “big deal” about it. He answered questions about it.
He also never said he was focusing on skin color first. Once again you people are making **** up and putting words in his mouth and pretending he is hellbent on race. Why? I am not sure.
Stop being dishonest
Agree, he shivved BB just like Flores did and Kaepernick did his adoptive parents. His subtle digs at Bill. I don't care what transpired the last couple of years, you don't disrespect the guy that drafted you, coached you to an all pro level, that gave you an opportunity to coach on the Patriots and someone that mentored you. He came across as sucking up to RK. As I said, maybe I am wrong on this , I really hope he does well and am rooting for him to do so, I just didn't like some of the tone of the press conference..
Yeah, not sure why.Not sure why he gives me Tomlin vibes. Could be his attempt to be so open and transparent.
Man, there is some borderline racist sh!t in this thread. What’s next? White Klan hoodies? Protocols of the Elders of Zion? Blackface? Damn.
How about waiting to see which coaches he hires, which players he drafts and signs, the offensive system he decides to employ and so on?
He pointed it out because being a black head coach is still a rarity in the NFL. Until recently, Tomlin was the only one. He pointed it out because it’s harder for black NFL coaches to get there and he was grateful for the chance, not because he thought he got it solely because of his race.Who said they see race?
It wasn’t a patsfans member, it is the Patriots head coach who has a limited resume.
Pointing out Race is why he got the job makes sense, after what we heard from Mayo when introduced.
Lol … shivved … not a word casually thrown about daily …Agree, he shivved BB just like Flores did and Kaepernick did his adoptive parents.
That was great! Here’s Bill’s detailed plan from his introductory press conference in 2000.
“I'm focused on the Patriots football team, the players, trying to get with the staff, the organization and trying to move as quickly as we can to make up for the time that has been lost between now and the end of the season where other teams have had a chance to move along.
As many of you know who have covered me and followed my career my basic philosophy on defensive football and overall in terms of winning football games is to have a strong, tough physical, both mentally and physical team and to try to be as well prepared as we possibly can for all situations that will come up in the course of the game and in terms of preparing for the game and for the season. As quickly as I can put those things into place here that's what I'll do. The shopping list is quite a long one, but the staff, speaking with the members of the current staff, coaching staff considerations, players, salary cap issues, personnel issues. Free agency is right around the corner. There's a lot of things that need to be done in a relatively short amount of time and I'm going to look as hard as I possibly can to get those things done efficiently and in a manner which will give our football team the best opportunity to win. That's all I really am about is trying to win football games.”

There is more in that one paragraph than Mayo offered in the entire press conference and he was coming in to a new franchise. Here’s Bill’s detailed plan from his introductory press conference in 2000.

You really believe that? he got the job because they believe he can do the job.He should see race because that is the only reason he got the job.
Lightning quick Kraft hired Mayo because he wanted to avoid being called racist.
Krafts biggest mistake, was naming Mayo as a possible head coach a couple years ago.
