You can't criticize them for making a backup plan to Brady and NOT making a backup plan for Brady's departure. People want to have it both ways.
He pushed him out, we all know it, we all seen it, lived it.. all the information is available to all of us. Boy what I would do to have a QB so bad.. they only had 24 TDs..

The problem with high QB picks is that they're almost always going to teams that are poorly run.
In our Case, a great organization, with botched QB play and no elite offensive skill players.

Remember BB's mantra of "a year too early rather than a year too late". To BB's credit, he lived by that particular sword and died by it.

All his stats rank him 20-25 for starting QB's in the NFL in 2023, his BEST year? In the last 2 minutes of a game and a half he is NEGATIVE 19 DVOA, Tommy Devito level of QB play when it counts.

He's been in the Legue 3 years, still has the floppy elbow which leads to inaccuracies, misses wide open guys, still can't go thru reads without getting sacked.

Why does anybody think trading assets for a bad QB, and then paying them 20 million plus of cap space makes any sense?

Chicago is 100% taking a QB in the first and they have Fields.
That's fine with me, I'd gladly take JF off thier hands! He is better than anyone we have currently on the roster. I have more faith in JF than I'd do Mac or Bailey. IMO

So bad, that ATLANTA wasn't willing to give into his demands. I'm just being honest on the assessment of things. Doesn't mean I'm dumping on Bill like some posters accuse us.

Well
We'll never really know, we are talking about having debo, AJ both publicly stated how they hoped the patriots drafted them... AJ actually upset his team growing up didn't take him after they did all this work on him... if I'm an owner I'm not paying 25 million to a GM NOT to make draft decisions.. but hey who knows?..
Newsflash: AJ isn't on the team that picked him.

Second: draft misses happen. They happen a lot. 60% of all WRs taken high flame out. This is a simple fact.

What happened was this: the owner threw a hissy fit because of Brady leaving, then the owner undercut the team with all sorts of backhanded moves, and he did this during a rebuild. Anyone who has confidence in the Krafts is going to be disappointed. I feel bad for Mayo.

The Krafts have ended things very badly 2x now with 2 of the greatest head coaches of all time in the history of the NFL.

I don't know what it is about this franchise, but every time they find a great head coach, they end things really badly (Fairbanks in '78). This doesn't happen to other franchises. Walsh didn't leave on bad terms, Noll didn't leave on bad terms, Landry didn't leave on bad terms, Shula didn't leave on bad terms. Only Jimmy Johnson left on bad terms, and he was a short-term coach anyway.

I would argue that the last two years plus, the Pats were poorly run. From selecting D players when needs on O were glaring. Harry over the host of other WR's. Phat Matt. Etc.
But you don't look at the facts.

They made 16 offensive picks in the draft in the last 3 years. Only 11 on defense. The draft value of these picks was equal. They paid as much attention to offense as they did to D.

Again, the need for defenders was also glaring. 2 seasons ago, the team didn't give up a punt in an entire game to the Bills. The entire D needed to be revamped.

And instead of taking an RT with the pick in the middle of the 1st, they took Gonzalez. Keion White instead of Cody Mauch. If you're trying to fill needs with mediocre players, you're never going to get anywhere.

Cost Mike Vrabel a job too the one that got away A.J. was worth it!

News update!!! I said the team that interviewed him. He wanted to come too made and he made it known. All Pro N'Keal was selected instead. Bill and the former Titans GM are both Unemployed!

It's not quantity. It's quality. Taking a bunch of late round Guards isn't addressing the Tackle problem, is it?

Bill, the Titans GM, and Vrabel are all out our work.
Oh he'll find a way to defend that. Stupid move slike that should get dudes fired BB had too much to overcome that's why he's wondering now.

That's irrelevant to the question of a backup plan. Garoppolo was the backup plan. Kraft had huge issues with Belichick even preparing a backup plan. He freakin' holds the chart Belichick showed about aging QBs against Belichick for even showing him the chart. Brady was 37 yrs old when Belichick prepared that chart. He was drafting Garoppolo to be Brady's successor. So after everything that happened in 2017, the last thing Belichick is going to do is draft Lamar Jackson in the 1st round. Not after the 2017 drama.

Back up a little bit and realize that Curran has been reporting that Belichick expected Brady to come back. Personally I don't think so, but that's what he says was expected. I also think Brady saw the writing on the wall about the extreme old age of the team in 2018. He ended up on Ross's yacht because he wanted to move on from the Patriots, and he wanted to do it in a way that didn't hurt his legacy. This was stupid by Brady since any move to the Dolphins would've destroyed his legacy. But no one wants to ever talk about these things.

What don't you understand about draft value?

They used 2 first round picks and 1 second rounder.

They didn't need value. They need talent. What don’t you understand about that?

Great, that was 6 years ago. A draft miss.

I'm going to attack the new GMs (Jonathan Kraft) for every draft miss from here on. For every miss, I will continue to mention it for the next 6 to 10 years. Repeatedly, non-stop. That will get me very far.

That's going to be tough because Jon isn't the GM.

You don't understand what draft value is. It's the weight of the pick in each round. It's the amount of resources you expend. You have a limited amount of resources. So it wasn't all late round draft picks as you said. I wrote that the draft value (the weight of the picks, premium picks) was considerable for the offense.
