I think Mac with a better supporting cast could have some success.
Mac is beyond awful. In the CFL he'd be awful. This board has always underestimated how bad he really is.

Interesting point here. Perhaps Caley and Getsy would work together?

I was on a flight with Natalie Portman in 2012. I passed her seat in 1st Class to use the restroom. I could see a scenario unfolding where we get together and solve the JFK shooters on the grassy knoll conspiracy.

I think mac has been horrible his last 2 years and his ceiling is not very high given his lack of physical abilities. But lets not pretend like he wasn't decent his Rookie year, lets not play revisionist history here. With solid coaching/pretty good roster he was an average game manager type QB. we can point to our offense down the stretch that year. BUT that is what a decent game manager can do. beat average/below average teams and if it comes down to having to go toe to toe with a top QB forget about it.

and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he gets back to being that player on another team with better talent/coaching around him. I mean freaking baker mayfield lead his team to the playoffs. Geno smith looks decent with the seahawks. so this idea that what a QB is after 2-3 years is what they are going to be is garbage.

now, thats not good enough to be a superbowl team or even win a playoff game. because he needs everything PERFECT to perform. but I think its abit much to act like he's always been awful and always will be.

he is what he is. a QB with a low ceiling who needs everything perfect around him to perform. Unfortunately everything around him was god awful and it exposed his physical/mental deficiencies.

His rookie year was a mirage. He had bad mechanics all alone. They basically scouted him and saw he couldn't do some things all NFL QBs, ALL, need to be able to do, like throw an out. They then flooded the middle of the field, and he wilted. He cowered. You can't put his name alongside Geno Smith's, he has 1/10th the talent. He was a bad pick. Again, your post underestimates how horribly bad he really is,

To quote our friend Bart Scott - “Can’t Wait!!”

Why did Bill take him at 15? Did ownership threaten him that he wouldn't be paid 25 million if he didn't take a QB?

He seemed like a good potential QB at the time. We needed a QB badly and Jimmy G. was under contract with the 49ers and they wanted too high a price for him. I don't fault Bill for taking him. I fault the organization for not having a better backup when he completely fell off the cliff this year.

Good players find a way. Intangibles take over and they rely on their strengths when things go bad. They roll out, they scramble, find time when its not there, lock onto a favorite target. Alas he has none of these traits.

He’s not accurate, no touch, no reading ability, no arm strength, limited scramble ability.

Regardless of the lack of coaching that some seem to pin it to. He just doesn’t have the it factor and has no gifts to fall back on. At best with a top 5 oline and running game he is still just a average qb imo. He’s already in the top 150 for pick 6’s and he’s only played 3 seasons, most of the qbs had full careers to achieve their infamy.

I call it utter butchery at the QB position becuase the QB who couldn't play anymore with 7 rings who was 24-8 in 2019.. was forced out now thst everything is out we can talk about it. the organization failed to properly manage it behind him. Stidham wasn't it, obviously Hoyer was what he was. So cam dropped in thier lap. I will always believe the entire organization was all in agreement with Mac. It all went bad in 2022.

I don't get the Fields hate especially from some Patsfans. It almost seems like some type of jealousy. Fields statically had his best year last season I think that's something his next team can build on. IF Mac had the year Fields had we wouldn't be thinking QB in the First.
All his stats rank him 20-25 for starting QB's in the NFL in 2023, his BEST year? In the last 2 minutes of a game and a half he is NEGATIVE 19 DVOA, Tommy Devito level of QB play when it counts.

He's been in the Legue 3 years, still has the floppy elbow which leads to inaccuracies, misses wide open guys, still can't go thru reads without getting sacked.

Why does anybody think trading assets for a bad QB, and then paying them 20 million plus of cap space makes any sense?

Chicago is 100% taking a QB in the first and they have Fields.

Yep Stidham was the most talented of the bunch though.
And did anyone see Davis Mills say he could perform as well as CJ Stroud?
Who knows that would of been my pick at QB in that draft since Wilson was out of range.

Absolutely, even with the Rams offense of '01, this guy would be sure to throw a pick in the most crucial moments. Think of him n the Super Bowl facing Aaron Donald. Or Michael Strahan for that matter.

If anything our coaches did us a favor by allowing us to cut bait much sooner. We could be the Giants right now with Daniel Jones the 2nd on our roster.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the pick of Mac Jones was thought of as a great thing by media, sportstalk and fans in general. He was coming from a pedigree program, great completion % and overall looked good for our offense. He did OK with a McDaniels run offense, but crapped the bed under Patricia and BOB. Personally I thought he looked like a country club kid who was used to a very good life and always minimally got participation trophies.

The 2021 draft was an anomaly among anomalies.. consider pick #2, Zach Wilson; #3 Trey Lance, #11 Justin Fields and #15 Mac Jones. Trevor Lawrence the #1 that year is pretty good, but does not break the thresh hold that was expected.

I am forever skeptical of high QB draft picks..

You can't criticize them for making a backup plan to Brady and NOT making a backup plan for Brady's departure. People want to have it both ways.

He didn't want to take him, that was clear from the drafting video. Ownership wanted a new face for the franchise.

These guys are so into branding that, faced with the decision to take Drake Maye or Caleb Williams, they'd take Maye!!

We'll never really know, we are talking about having debo, AJ both publicly stated how they hoped the patriots drafted them... AJ actually upset his team growing up didn't take him after they did all this work on him... if I'm an owner I'm not paying 25 million to a GM NOT to make draft decisions.. but hey who knows?..

The problem with high QB picks is that they're almost always going to teams that are poorly run.
