Mayo: With the #3 pick we're taking BPA for the biggest need on the team

The fact that you want that guy back after he mailed it in during the season and pissed off a bunch of teammates speaks volumes.
That he's also the top raked LT in free agency speaks volumes, too. This is just a terrible spot to be in without a LT.

I don't want him back, but he might have a different attitude with Mayo as coach.

I don't believe it.. Mayo was here as one of the coaches and he still had the attitude. I don't think it would last..

If that's the case, bye bye, let him walk, we can find someone a little later in the draft since the FA markets thin.

Thunder Cat waits his turn ...

I wouldn't read anything into what Mayo said. The perennial draft question is do you draft the best available or do you draft for need.... I think he was just jokingly f'ing with us by saying "we will draft the best available for the biggest need".

I honestly doubt the Patriots themselves know what they are doing, partially because we don't even know who the person is who will be the one making the final decision but also because we still have the combines, interviews, visits, etc... not to mention we don't know exactly who will be available at #3.... (if I had to guess, I'd say Williams and Maye were gone, but that is just a wild guess)

Anticipating that Caleb Williams and Drake Maye go #1 and #2...

Let's say the team doesn't love Jayden Daniels enough to draft him. I wonder what Chargers would give to move up from #5 to #3 and jump AZ for MHJ? Could you get their early 2nd rounder (#37) for that if they love him?

Then let's say AZ continues to build around Murray as expected and take either the next best WR at #4 or the top OT prospect.

Now at #5, you're sitting there with Daniels still on the board and NYG picking behind you. If Kirk Cousins leaves, MIN needs a QB and that's the type of team that could convince themselves they're a playoff team with one. Could you deal #5 to MIN for #11, their 2nd (#42) and a future 1st? We've seen deals like that for top QBs.

So now instead of #3 (and our own 2nd, #34), we're sitting there with #11, #34, #37 and #42 (plus an extra 1st next year). Supposedly a strong/deep WR and OT draft class. You can probably still fill one of them at #11. Try to move up from one of those early 2nds back into the 1st to address the other. Use the remaining two high 2nds to just go BPA (maybe double dipping at OT or WR even). Then next year you have an extra 1st to use as part of a package to move up for the QB position you left un-addressed this year.

You could get way more than just 37 for that jump. You could get 37 and next year's 1st.

Maybe? Seems like the WR class is good though so for as great as MHJ is, doubt a team gives that up to draft him vs. one of the other guys.

I mean, just for fun (and I don't think the Patriots are trading out, just from what's being said, but just for the exercise) - if you trade with the Chargers, you could get Odunze or Alt at 5, and get Penix at 37 (which is a much more appropriate draft position).

I don't expect that to happen, I'm just saying you could totally do that, and have 2 firsts in the top 10 next year.

Just hard for me to imagine any team giving that up for MHJ, as good as he is. Odunze and Nabers are considered high end prospects themselves. Bowers is also considered a unique caliber of TE prospect. If the Chargers want to add another high end weapon for Herbert they can do that without using 2 1st round picks to get MHJ instead. That just feels a price too steep for them to justify paying. At "only" giving up #37 to move up I could see them justifying it's worth it to go get the top guy. But 2nd first seems a silly price to pay for them there.

Oh I agree, if you're the Chargers. I'm just saying that's the price for the trade-up, just pick-wise.

Typically the trade ups we've seen that high are for a QB. There's a premium teams pay for that. Not so much at WR. It's a tough trade to draw a comparable for.

I personally wouldn't do #3 and for #5 and #37 in a vacuum. I'd just take the supposed generational prospect in MHJ. For me it was about the full context of being willing to make that follow up trade with MIN down even further on the draft board so they could move up for Daniels. Since I was willing to do that, the deal with Chargers was just a little side bonus to pocket an extra pick as an interim move. So I wasn't concerned with "winning" that deal. Obviously I'd want more if it was available, but if the end goal is moving down with MIN like I did anyway I wouldn't walk away from the deal to hold out for more. Not in that context.

The 49ers let him go for the same reason that the Pats are letting him go.

He isn’t going to change.

I've done way too many mocks with the little machine to know what you can get trading down a couple of times. In a lot of scenarios, you end up with 3 first round picks in 2025. *shrug*

I'm not the GM though, it's not up to me.

Yes, I understand what you're saying. Fields IMO is a victim of bad coaching he can certainly play at a high level.. his.game could elevate here with a players coach in mayo, some weapons around him and a better culture. You can clearly see the talent with Fields but coaching just isn't up to parr.
Fields sucks. Not much better than Mac

Someone said he's been in college for so long he was throwing touchdowns to Brandon ayok.

When you look at it like that, I ain't interested.
He's a fifth year Sr. He's 23 same as Daniels. Nothing wrong with that. I actually like the idea of MHJ and Nix combo if it can pan out that way.

A lot of time between now and the end of April.

This is what I’ve been calling for a month.

How many of these 5 year seniors turn into all pro QBs.

Damn! Ima tear people up in the next Madden!
