Mayo: With the #3 pick we're taking BPA for the biggest need on the team

It's not sexy, but a smart play may be:

- Trade down from 3 to 6 with NYG in exchange for pick #47, so NYG can take MHJ
- At 6, take either one of the top two LT prospects, or Jayden Daniels still if he's happened to fall to 6 (he may, since ARI and LAC are not likely to take him - though another team could trade up)
- With picks 34 and 47, explore moving up as needed to plug the tackle/QB gap that still exists on the team after your first pick
Shoot me if you want, but this is the type of draft navigation that requires someone with serious skills, and I don't get that vibe from Mayo. Will we have a GM by the draft who could pull something like this off?

IF we could get Nix or Pennix Jr after that I could live with it.
I have a feeling we are going to fall in love with both of those guys at the Senior Bowl. They shouldn't be Top 10 Guys.

I really don't think Mayo will be running things in that way. IMO, I do think they'll either have someone new running the draft by then or they will have fully given the reins to Wolf, either/or.

You think they'll give final say of personnel to Wolf over Mayo? Or is it some weird two-headed beast thing of equals?

Ross: it's quite obvious Daniels and Maye will Grade out very well. Also we have some Top O-Linemen heading to FA in a meager class ie... Brown and Onwenu I really hope Mayo have a good relationship with Trent Brown he could fill a Tackle Void for a Young QB. We should able to find a RT in the Draft.

If I were to move down from 3 to 6 I would want the same package the colts got when they moved down with the Jets (who took Darnold). Colts ended up with 6, both jets 2nd rounders (which NY has) and next years 2nd. If it’s MHJ the giants have to feel certain he’s not making it to 6 so they could be motivated to go above point value to get him.

At pick 3, you only really need to worry about two positions, QB and WR. Even if they trade back as far as 9, consensus BPA would be one of the top 4 positions of need.

(They’ll add TEs in free agency, but it’s currently a pretty dire need with only La'Michael Pettway under contract.)

How does Brock Bowers compare with other TEs?

If he is close to Gronk he could be a consideration.

Here are some complementary WR's to consider in FA Guys who work well with a Potential #1.

Marquise Brown

K.J. Osborn

DJ Chark

Josh Reynolds

Curtis Samuel
All 5 would be starting over juju and stuck in park..

Well, we don’t have ANY offensive coaches who might fix Fields.
It ok its still better than the world class coaching the last 2 season. Wasn't Bailey Jones all pro from the coaching?...

That's how I feel. Take Maye or Daniels at 3 and work to trade up for another first round pick to take a LT. Although I'd say we must attempt to resign Onwenu.
What if we take MHJ at 3 then look to trade up for Penix, you think possible or Penix will go too high?

I get the point about evans and co but I think a franchise level WR is equally important, we’ve lacked it for so long. I don’t think cousins would have trouble connecting with a star young WR for example, so it could work either way.

Just need to look at what's available in free agency, and what's not available.

- You can probably find a WR1: between Higgins, Evans, Pittman Jr or a trade, someone will be available
- You can probably find a decent TE1: Dalton Schultz is good, and they might be able to just bring back Hunter Henry, who was fine
- You CAN'T find a QB1: there's Cousins, Baker (who are not necessarily world-beaters themselves) and then that's it. Assuming they stay with their teams, you're looking at backups/bridge guys at best
- You CAN'T find a LT: Tyron Smith is a big maybe. They next best guy is Trent Brown...

Considering the above - I would spend on WR and TE in free agency and try to get a mid-level RT and a bridge QB. I would then draft a QB at 3 and investigate moving up into the late teens/early twenties for a guy I can make my left tackle.
100% agree that QB and LT are always the hardest to find both in FA and draft. If they don't like any QB at 3 it has to be the top LT.

We don't know that yet.

Agree. Could mean they sign a FA at QB, WR or LT before the draft thus the actual pick is deemed the biggest need at the time.
There is no LT worthy of signing in Free Agency..

I fully expect a Veteran QB/ (Preferably one who was cut instead of having their contract run out).. I'm tryng to find out if void years are treated as contract ending or Roster Cut..

I expect them to trade down to take an OT or to take MHJ. MHJ is better than any WR we have.

I do not expect a WR to be signed beyond Bourne being re-signed unless they have jettisoned both Parker and Smith-Schuster. This is because I believe in them taking MJH and going with Thornton, Boutte, Bourne and Douglas as their top 5

The fact that you want that guy back after he mailed it in during the season and pissed off a bunch of teammates speaks volumes.

Great minds think alike DB.

Hoping they add Schultz and Drew Sample..

I don't want him back, but he might have a different attitude with Mayo as coach.
