Nice, and he was projected where again?

We should be able to score another impact player in '09 at #24.

Congrats, well-deserved!

Very well deserved honor for Jerod!!

How the hell did Rivers get 1 vote??

Props to Jerod. He deserves it.
Great year Jerod.

Did Mayo win Defensive rookie of the year ?

I haven't heard anything.
thanks

Kudos to J-Rod. Of course, it will mean little, now that Pioli, McDaniels, and everybody else now working in New England are slated to go with Mangina to Cleveland

Turns out the FO does know how to draft talent, and the coaching staff does know how to develop it. Go figger.

Eh well, I better not get too ****y, I see our demise is scheduled for 2009 (1 year before the US splits up into 8 different mini-countries according to some Russian professor quoted on the bulletin board )

We'll be in the basement of NFLEuropa West

I was So happy to hear that Jerod was named DROY He played outstanding everytime I saw him play. I hope that he can countine on into next year.

Re: Mayo wins Defensive Rookie award

Nice he got 49 of the 50 votes. Keith Rivers got the other one.

Mayo deserved it. It's rare that a rookie comes in and starts and plays every snap. His performance during the Jets game was especially great. Too bad the secondary lost it for us in OT. 3rd and 16... come on!!

i forgot he had 23 tackles agasint the jets....still cant believe it

good job mayo

Re: Mayo wins Defensive Rookie award

Vernon Gholston go the other vote

I believe you were misinformed... He got 1 recorded tackle, all year.

Rivers was the LB who got the other vote, not Gholston.

Congrats to Jerod. Much deserved for him. This guy is going to be a beast for years to come. The scary part is that he can only get better. :singing:

not sure if anyone mentioned this but the pats basically drafted both ROY this year. if you dont understand what i mean i will explain but its pretty cool to think that its all connected to us

Yeah please explain????

I know Dimitrof was a former NE employee but still dont see how that is the same as what you are saying.

not a knock on Mayo at all but he is equally to blame fpr the 3rd and 15 as the secondary if you look at the 3rd and 15 again you can see Mayo drop into coverage and roll away from the TE I don't know the play called so I can't say for sure he screwed up but it certainly looked like he did the wrong thing.

on your other note per Reiss Mayo led the defense in play time percentage at like 90%.

Well, the Bengals Keith Rivers received the other vote. He, of the broken jaw back in October. Not sure if he missed the rest of the season or not, but either way, he missed lots of time. That said, consider the vote unanimous, as the writer or broadcaster should be :banned:from voting.

Well, time to forgive the writer -- Jay Paris of the North County Times. What follows is a reply via e-mail from Paris to this source:

I wish I had a good insightful reason for it. But it was just a mistake that I didn't realize until after the vote came out.

When it came time to turn in the votes Monday, I was working on a Chargers playoff piece on Philip Rivers at the same time. I switched back to my early DROY watch list, which included Mayo and Rivers, and was going back and forth from the two screens.

I had Rivers on my mind, kept Keith Rivers' name on the voting balloting, and deleted Mayo.

My bad. Obviously Mayo is the clear choice -- I'm a UCLA honk so giving Rivers' that vote is really troubling!

Congrats to Mayo! Obviously BB knew what he was doing with this selection.

Now here's hoping Matt Cassel can serve as bait to draft Laurinatis to the LB corp along side Mayo.
