I hope Mayo stays but if he gets the HC job the Pats receive 2 third round comp picks I believe.

I may be wrong, but I believe those 3rd round picks are for coordinators moving to HC or FO staff to GM. I don't think it incl. staff w/ no titles getting HC, which would suck even more for the team that Bill doesn't give titles.

If they have an offer on the table to keep Mayo, I can't imagine it can be anything less than the DC title. Feels like a real solid move to keep one of our homegrown coaching talents if this is the case.

As for the announcement of OC interviews, I feel like the pressure from Kraft was real. But in the end BB isn't a dummy so he makes sure that his name is put in the headlines so it looks like it was his decision. Maybe all this came from BB in the end, but you've gotta believe Kraft was NOT pleased with the offense this year and made it known to BB.

All in all great news. Just depends on whom we hire for OC now. Hopefully someone with genuine credentials, who can call a great game, prepare the offense properly for games, and can skillfully mentor or bring along either Mac or whatever new QB they pick up to lead the team in 2023.

I will bet the new OC is someone that 99% of fans on this site have never heard of or it will be the current TE's coach.

They also need a QB coach....no mention made of replacing the current "QB coach"

They still have to go through the process and follow the rules, so I expect 5 or 6 candidates and they'll be announced. They're not doing this "under the radar." It'll be transparent for a change, which is a good thing.

I could be wrong too but the way I interpret this is that the Patriots will receive a Third this year and a Third next year if Mayo becomes a head coach even though he didn't have an official title.

"Teams that lose a minority coach or executive to a head coach or general manager job with another team will receive a third-round compensatory pick for two consecutive years, per Pelissero. If a team loses a minority coach and an executive to HC and GM roles, that club will receive a third-round compensatory pick for three consecutive years."

Agree, doesn't say anything about coordinators, just coaches. Good.

Technically, Matt isn't the OC so he can't be fired.

The season ticket holders have their pitch forks and torches ready - Kraft is just keeping them happy
I have had tickets for 30 years and normally receive the letter and payment information a couple of months after the season ends. When I seen the letter in my email a few days ago. I thought to myself Kraft must be sensing turnover with STH.

Hope Mayo stays. Him and BB Jr are a good combo.

Am I reading too much behind the all interview new OC next week but is that meaning that it will not be BOB? Am I the only to think that they would just offer the job to BOB ?

Are they conducting interviews just in case BOB doesn’t come here or do they know that he will not come here? Reminder that we hoped that BOB would be the OC in 2022 but he was supposed to be the Bucs OC if Leftwich was hired by the Jags.

Pats HC and Pats GM/VP in a few years

The Mayo news is great, have felt all along that he may be the future of the NEP after BB retires. Would like to see him as DC and Ass't Head Coach so he can watch and participate in the rarified air that BB breathes.
Judge needs to revert back to ST Coordinator, Patricia upstairs in a Ernie Adams type role.
Caley as QB coach and a dynamic O coach (B'Ob or another prodigy) who will tweak the current offense instead of bringing in a 3rd offense in 3 years...

No thanks; we need a QBs coach who's actually, you know, coached QBs before.
What a unique idea.

If he's not calling plays, how do you blame him for bad defensive play calls?
And that's a great question.

As for all of the hullabaloo over the coaching, it won't matter much without players who can play.

As for the press release, desperate times call for desperate measures and Kraft is desperately hoping to bring the fans back in line.

This is so un-Patriot that it makes me want to understand what's behind it. Like many surmise I think there's been a lot of unease in the season ticket cadre. Maybe BK is taking some not so light ribbing down at the billionaires' club that doesn't sit too well with him. This is definitely the Krafts telling folks "we're working on it".

The aspect of freezing possible OC candidates' decisions while the Pats search gets up to speed makes sense - "wait, we're searching too!". I feel there is also a bit of boxing Bill in as if the agreement between BK and BB on the way forward might have been BB giving a grunt/snort of acquiesence rather than a hardy hi-o, Silver.

huh? Kraft's are a train wreck of an ownership because they might have the guy they want to replace Belichick as HC on staff and want to keep him?
