Maye must play

Happy to see Mayo squash the start Maye noise right away. I look at yesterday as nothing more than putting the backup in when the game is done.
Except the backup is the "future of the franchise" and he got sacked twice. It has to be something more than garbage time minutes or it doesn't make any sense. Put Milton in if that's the aim.

I understand the thinking, I just don't think this is a pragmatic approach. It would send a bad message to the rest of the team and interferes with establishing Maye's as the team leader on a losing team. The leadership part is hard, especially if the rest of the team views him as a prima donna.
Excellent point.

As much as I wanted Maye to play, it quickly changed after seeing how bad the OL was collapsing on him.

Yeah, maybe it could wait until the third stringers aren't playing. I don't know why anyone expected a different result last night.

Patriots' completions of 10-19 air yards

Jacoby Brissett: 4 (28 drives)
Drake Maye: 1 (1 drive)

We need Sow and Strange back gotta find a way to play both of them together.

It’s just getting him live reps without the pressure of being expected to win
It's also exposing him to an abnormally high risk of injury. It's one thing to hang in there when you're making a playoff run. This team has no shot at the playoffs -- as you said, there's no pressure to win games -- so in my view, the elevated risk of injury behind this line outweighs any benefit this season. One significant concussion could change the entire trajectory of Maye's career, and this line can't protect him.

Because he is better than Maye.
Obviously better! He has size, moves better and has that arm! Did I mention the arm? Man, I can't believe the entire NFL passed on this guy multiple times. It's just like Brady all over again. We could have drafted Alt, another OL in the 2nd, and then big JM.

At this point i would go with Brissett till OL is "stabilized"
No hurry at all

Mayo is treating Brissett like the franchise and Maye like the slug

Brissett sucked all game, so when the game was out of reach he put the backup in to take the beating.
Then he came out strong in favor of this being brissets team and he is the QB. He is defending Brissett from criticism, and protecting him as if he was the important piece.

For those that say Maye shouldn’t play because it’s not safe (lol it’s football) your coach has him as the jag you throw out there to take beatings in blowouts.

Because it’s a professional football team. A team in a league that is designed to create parity. Bad teams have higher picks and extra cap money.
We expect to close the gap between other teams by taking advantage of that. Tell me, what positives contributions did we get Thursday night from the resources we had to improve the team this off season. What newly acquired free agents and draft picks made positive contributions that improved the team over last years.

Maye can do everything Milton can do but better. Milton isn’t an NFL level QB.

People talk like Alt is Orlando Pace… he’s not. He is very good but I’m not convinced he will ever be elite.

When will we have a O line any QB can play behind?
Everybody else is just OK with waiting. By the time Maye is up for a contract extension hopefully the O Line is good enough for us to see what he can do

I see I didn't drench my Milton comments in enough sarcasm. I keep forgetting people really talk about him that way. I'd rather see Milton out there as cannon fodder, now that my sacrificial lamb of choice, future Super Bowl Champion Bailey Zappe, was jettisoned. Put anybody but Maye out there until they are playing like a league average line (whatever that is, I'm sure we'll know once we get there).

Need more data on Alt. If he isn't one of the top LTs in the league within a few years, that might be one of the biggest surprises of the 2024 draft.

What does that have to do with injuries reducing an already borderline OL to a smoking hole in the ground? Other than assuaging your personal grudge against the team?

You seriously think they won't invest heavily in the OL this draft?

Week 5 at home VS a Tua-Less Miami, we can wait one more game as painful as it is.
