And that my friend, if I may be so bold as to call you my friend, is the essence of arguing with Andy. 'Cause whichever cup you choose, it's poisoned
I would say those circumstances include coaching, and many characteristics of the player. But i do see those characteristics as being you can develop by sitting out, but fail by playing. That development can never be hampered by circumstances.
You can argue with me, but go in knowing that I thought it through and make the statement feeling it stands up to arguments to refute it.This is correct. Never argue with Andy. But I maintain that he does have some interesting points if you can simply read the posts and not respond.
Agreed. I don't go for that either, but I state it once and move on. You will never change people. You can argue with me, but go in knowing that I thought it through and make the statement feeling it stands up to arguments to refute it.
Most of the time on this board people aren’t even arguing against the point, but against the one they want to argue with so they ascribe that version to the other person. I don’t go for that.

That 2000 offensive line was one of the most offensive lines ever. Brady might have been killed. He should be happy Bledsoe spared him that punishment. You cannot discuss anything because in his mind he is always 100% correct, so it becomes a monologue.
Brady himself said he wasnt ready in year 1. He wasnt mentally ready, but moreover he wasnt ready physically. He added a lot of muscle mass between year 1 and year 2.
Playing on Sunday is just looking at a 3 hour window on a full week of preparation. As Edelman said recently, you dont really know what the player can do until the bullets start flying around, but it's not an additional 60 reps over a full week of preparation that will magically accelerate the player development. The players develop through practices and preparation.
Anybody who thinks Brady would have been able to take the job away from Bledsoe game one of 2000 has never play any competitive team sport. That team was 5-11, and a rookie Brady wouldnt have done much better....with the losses accumulating, the veterans on the team would have either quit on Brady, knowing they had a proven starter on the bench, or quit on the coaching staff, who decided to put a 6th round rookie over a former 1st overall pick who was a pro bowler 2 season before. There's never a second chance to make a first impression, and if the coaching staff had to replace Brady to put back Bledsoe in, Brady would have been labeled a backup by everyone on that team. And chances are, being a 6th round draft pick, nobody else would have given him a chance to start again.
Ok. Well either way, let’s hope the Pats make the right decision with this guy. It’s been years since this team was any fun.I would say those circumstances include coaching, and many characteristics of the player. Again, my primary point is that anything you do while taking a year off from playing can be done while playing and also gaining experience. The characteristics that would cause you to fail because you played would lead to you failing once you played if you say out.
I accept you are a better player if you take time to learn and mature. My argument is not that you are as good as a rookie as you would be year 2 if you sat.
My argument is if you would have progressed by sitting you would have progressed even more by playing.
Let him learn on the fly we can live with that: we once had the GOAT at the position then the worse. We just want to get back to respectability at the position at the very least. IF we are going the bridge route you do it with a better QB not named Biscuit. In terms of the locker room all our vets are paid they just have to do their jobs. Maye's struggles shouldn't have any impact on them...I think your Locker room take is overrated.Let's say Maye starts and plays really poorly. The veteran players on the team are looking to be put in position to succeed as much as possible. They're going to be looking at the coach to pull the guy who's playing poorly and give someone else a shot, Jacoby Brissett in this case. No different than they would at any other position. They're loyal to their own careers and earning potential before the long term development of the franchise.
It's much smoother and easier to justify to the locker room if you play the vet, he sucks, and then you go to the rookie. Even if Maye plays terrible then, all of the vets will understand that Brissett wouldn't give them any better a chance to win and they'll accept Maye's struggles.
I buddy hope things are going well with you. Some people are acting like Maye lit up the scoreboard; he did not.
The same folks believe that he will rot and atrophy away if he does not start; he will not.
Sammy call it a keen eye but I saw a different energy from this Team when Maye played even though it's a small sample size. The last time I saw something like that was with Brady...call it whatever you want. Some people are acting like Maye lit up the scoreboard; he did not.

Let's say you work at a company and they say at the beginning of the year that there's a goal to reduce operating costs and if the company hits that then there will be a company-wide bonus. Now let's say on December 1st management says they're on pace to hit the goal, but they decided to run an expensive marketing campaign in December because it looks better to investors to get those costs into the year where they already offset with other OpEx costs. They say it means no bonus but it's best for the long term growth of the company.Let him learn on the fly we can live with that: we once had the GOAT at the position then the worse. Nice analogy but we are talking about the privileged 1% in the unreal word of sports money wise. P.s. the thought of Biscuit playing gives me the creeps not looking forward to it.Let's say you work at a company and they say at the beginning of the year that there's a goal to reduce operating costs and if the company hits that then there will be a company-wide bonus. What is morale going to be like? Probably not good. Many of the people there don't give a **** about the long term because they won't even be a part of it. Maye's under contract through 2027 and we only have 12 other players signed for that year. Most of these guys on the team aren't going to reap any sort of reward for Maye's development.
We've talked about trying to attract vets and how the front office should have done a better job plugging holes. If you're a veteran stop gap OT next year, why would you sign here if the coaching staff/front office demonstrated that they'll play a rookie over you even if you're better. The answer is that you won't. You'll go somewhere else where you'll be given an opportunity to parlay that stop gap contract into more opportunity next year if your play warrants it.
That's good. It's a lot better than viewing him as someone who is lost.Sammy call it a keen eye but I saw a different energy from this Team when Maye played even though it's a small sample size. The last time I saw something like that was with Brady...call it whatever you want.
100% You can easily ruin great talents by throwing them in too early. My main concern is with our inept offensive line. Maye could develop the 'happy feet' and that would ruin all the training he has done to fix his mechanics. If you can't protect the QB he has no chance at all. I don't believe in rushing these guys. Maye is the future agreed, why risk it unless you've set up a solid environment where he can succeed? It was one preseason game. We need to stop it.
Even if Brissett is a disaster. You do not play Maye until he is ready. You don't risk screwing the kid up so we can win 7-8 games or possibly less.
Stop looking at everything about this year. This team is thinking beyond this year. I would rather go 0-17 and let Maye sit if he truly isn't ready than to rush him out there and have him develop bad habits that he can never break.
If he is ready and he is the best option, start him. If they believe it is better for his long term prospects to sit him even if it is only for a month, then sit him. The primary focus is trying to make Maye a franchise QB, not win games this year.
Despite all of the tire spinning in this thread, progress has been made on the field. The benchmark that Maye needed to be better than Brissett by mid season to be considered on track seems easily attainable. The positions that Maye needs to earn the job vs Maye needs to play right away no matter what are starting to align. Some people are acting like Maye lit up the scoreboard; he did not.
The same folks believe that he will rot and atrophy away if he does not start; he will not.
Can I see what you saw because I saw a struggling, incohesive team.Sammy call it a keen eye but I saw a different energy from this Team when Maye played even though it's a small sample size. The last time I saw something like that was with Brady...call it whatever you want.
