Maybe not pats related any more but diggs ended up not guilty

B.t.w. as many have forgotten, Diggs had1,013 receiving yards in 17 games. Real production for our team. He was the team's first 1,000-yard receiver since Julian Edelman in 2019. Dummies..hollins boutte not in his sphere. Gone in my book. Brown, doubs, Diggs. Nothing less for

He led the leauge with Josh Allen in 20...

If pats bring him back anything less than 1000 yds imo will be kinda mediocre.

(Unless brown just mogs him with a 1000 plus yard season himself.)

How nice would it be to have two 1000 yd receivers... Brown has done that before with Devonta Smith.

If they bring Diggs back, great, but I don’t see it happening. What I really like about Doubs and if we get Brown, they both are really good route runners with excellent hands. They get open a ton. Would be difficult to key on one, the other will burn you. They aren’t speed demons, but they will be extremely key targets for Maye. And let’s not forget Boutte and Hollins, both guys Maye likes to throw to as well. They EACH had over 500+ yards receiving, so Maye will go to them as well. And of course our 2nd leading receiver as far as catches and yards, TE Hunter Henry is still here, and hopefully he mentors Eli Raridon, who may be a sneaky target for Maye during his rookie season.

Hopefully they get Brown, he would be an important addition. The WR corps would probably be good without him, but they certainly would be much better if they got him.
I don't know if they'll be "much" better with Brown, but they'll be better.
If they get Brown and bring in Diggs again for this year - it will be the best WR corps Maye throws to for his entire career.

I would be fine with 250 catches and 2500 yards from the top 3 receivers, if the Patriots add another couple thousand on the ground. If you bring Diggs back, he's going to solely play slot. 1000 yards is a lot to ask from that spot, when you have other places you can go with the ball (for someone who doesn't love throwing a) short and b) in the middle of the field)

Not even close for the amount of money that was due to him. And it took him 17 games just to crack 1,000. As I've pointed out before, Welker and especially Edelman were paid peanuts as slot receivers with better (Welker) or equal production (Edelman) in 16 game seasons. Why would you take on a cap number of $26.5M for a for a 33 year old coming off an ACL tear to play the slot? The majority of his yards came against bad teams in blow out wins where he probably wasn't even needed. The only two games he put the team on his back were at Buffalo and at Baltimore. He had many no shows throughout the season and had no shot of doing anything during the playoffs with how bad the OL was.

It was an easy decision to decline his cap number.

The ONLY way Diggs returns is if somehow the AJB trade doesn't materialize. He was a good leader last year and probably worth 1n the 12-15 million range on a one year deal with at least 2/3rds based on production and snaps or maybe a 2 yr deal if the if the 2nd year is a a phony as his last deal was

Aside from randy moss.. what was o

Id be okay with tds over yards... but they definitely go hand in hand unless your Moss in 07... but just for fun let's compare their best seasons!

Diggs '20 averaged a td every 191 yards..

Moss '07 averaged a td every 60

Aj Brown '16 averaged a td every 136 yds...

They all had 1500 yd seasons.

Greatness!

And he did that with just 102 targets, catching 85 of them - catching over 8 passes for every 10 thrown his way

AJ Brown caught 78 passes for 1,003 yards on 121 targets - catching 6 passes for every 10 thrown his way

Statistically if Diggs had that many passes thrown to him he'd have over 100 catches and 1200 last season

Conversely if Brown only had the same number of targets as Diggs, he'd only have 66 passes fro 860 yards last season

I think Brown is a done deal especially since we didn't draft any WRs - so I'm expecting we will be paying a bigger contract for less production with Brown compared to Diggs

But we'd get more production out of Diggs plus the receivers who got the extra targets that will now be going to Brown (who's long reception last year was 45 yards - not that much more than Diggs')

Don't get me wrong - Diggs isn't a true #1 WR who's going to have big deep plays (his long was 34 yards last season) and he wasn't worth the $27 million salary that Brown won't get to until 2028 - but we will likely be a less efficient offense with Brown rather than Diggs.

That being said we're swapping a $27 million WR in Diggs for a younger $23 million WR in AJ Brown so I suppose one should expect less production.

Hopefully Brown can improve upon his pedestrian 64% completion rate with a QB like Maye throwing to him, but fans shouldn't be looking at Brown as that much better than Diggs when statistically he's worse.

For what it's worth, Edelman wasn't any more productive than Brown in 2019

He had 153 passes thrown his way and caught 100 for a 65% catch rate

If Edelman had Diggs' 83% catch rate he'd have pulled in 128 catches for 1400 yards

Fans look at the total catches and yards but they seldom factor in the efficiency rate - especially when you have a MUST CATCH ball

Diggs catches those 8 out of 10 times whereas others catch those 6 out of 10 times.

You guys keep missing the point...he's a leader also. He rallied this team, he was a role model player and brought it in many games. If they decide to bring him back and he agrees to a lower salary for a year he will not see the double teams any more with Brown and Doubs. He would be a 1000 yard slot hands down at his age. Maye would have his first 3rd down binkie just like Brady had. Diggs was not a cancer on this team, he's a leader to go to war with!

They aren't bringing Diggs back.

I watched the trial. It was one of the worst prosecutions I have ever seen. No fault of the prosecutor, mind you, just that the alleged victim was absolutely atrocious. She got caught lying, she was belligerent, evasive....
She was "evasive"??? Can she catch the ball as well?

I'd rather give Diggs another go, if he's reasonable about the compensation, than waste all those big resources - picks particularly - on AJB. We know what Diggs can do. We don't know exactly how quickly AJ's knee will turn to junk, but we know it will in due course.

If Diggs was re-signed, he'd probably be used purely as a slot guy at this point and the Pats would likely move on from Douglas. Either trading him or cutting him.
I don't find that horrifying.
