Matthew Golden

Having watched a fair number of TX games I have to say Golden is a bit of an enigma. He'll flash some plays here and there but then have stretches where he can't be found. He teases that he's really good but TX didn't feature him as a weapon.
How would you rate Ewers?
The Texas games I saw this year.......completely unimpressed.

Could it be argued Texas WRs were limited because of Ewers?

Vrabel is not going to take a WR with our 1st round pick.

He did take Treylon Burks in the 1st round with the Titans. Just saying ....

I dont really expect it either unless maybe via trade down and trade up with the #2.

But hes been all over the board with #1's as HC. 1 LB, 1 DT, 2 OL, 1 WR, 1 CB.

The only thing I would say as a counter is that Vrabel has repeatedly stressed the need for a WR that can handle contested catches and deliver in the redzone. Now that doesn't necessarily mean he'll take one in the first but it's clearly a priority for him. I don't think that's Golden but it does sound like McMillan. Not that I'm advocating for that pick because I'm not.

I'm intrigued by Jayden Higgins. He was predicted before the combine to run a 4.55. He ran a 4.47 and came in at 6'4 and 214. Even before he ran a faster 40 time than I thought he would, I wanted him in the 2nd Round. His comp is Michael Pittman Jr. He's actually now faster than both Pittman Jr. and Tee Higgins. He has the size and speed to be an outside X, a Red Zone threat, and a possession receiver. He's predicted to be a solid #2 WR as a Rookie. Imagine if he becomes that and then next year we give him a #1 WR to play opposite of? I fear that if we pass on him, it'll be like when we passed on Higgins and Pittman Jr. in the 2nd Round of the same Draft.

I should correct myself. If Hunter is available at #4 Vrabel might pick him, and a lot of teams are saying that Hunter is a WR. I saw a stat that said Hunter was exceptional at contested catches - amazing eye hand coordination.

Ewers is decent but nothing earth shaking. He's on a par with such other UT qbs as Colt McCoy and Sam Ehlinger, maybe a bit better as a passer. He was good enough to get the ball to where it needed to go most of the time. I think it was more to do with Sark's playcalling having a spread it around philosophy. With a lot of pretty good talent to share the ball but none with must feed him the ball level of talent no one was going to pile up flashy stats. Maybe Golden could have if he was force-fed the ball but that wasn't the UTexas setup.

Ewers is a clipboard career in the NFL. I say that wearing my Texas Longhorns t-shirt. Never understood Sark's loyalty to him over Manning this year. Manning was clearly better. Still, the 'Horns did not underachieve this year, and that's with Ewers under center down the stretch.

Agree re Ewers. I didn't see much of Manning so can't say if he was better. He'll have to show me more than the name on his jersey before I'll get excited though.

Was Manning clearly better?
QB Keeper seemed to be the only play coaches dialed up for him at the end of the season.

Isaiah Bond is going be a Steal.

Amen! I'd also trade up if I thought that there was even the slightest chance of another team snagging him before we pick at #38.
Create a Jayden Higgins thread already lol

Go look at his numbers while Ewers was out in September.

I don't think he had that much pull in Tennessee, I think it was the GM trying to make up for trading AJ brown
