Brothers in arms
On the same day Matt Cassel relieved injured quarterback Tom Brady and helped the New England Patriots to a 17-10 win over Kansas City, his older brother, Jack, threw four innings to help the Houston Astros defeat Colorado, 7-5.
Now that's a two-sport brother act if there ever was one.
"I can guarantee you that's never happened in the history of sports before on the same day," Houston's Darin Erstad said of the Sunday two-fer. "Great job by Jack, and Matt as well. Great day for the Cassel family."
Jack Cassel relieved Wandy Rodriguez, who suffered a strained abdominal muscle.
"I just had this gut feeling" I'd pitch, Cassel said. "I was happy to get in there and make the best of it."
Brother Matt was 13 of 18 for 152 yards and a touchdown against the Chiefs.
"I'm just completely elated for him," Jack Cassel said. "He's worked his tail off his entire career to get out there and to play. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tom, but in the meantime, Matt's ready to step in."
