Marvin Lewis: Belichick is too smart to go after Ochocinco

Belichick signed free agent Chad Ochocinco today and immediately benched him for the first series of the first 8 games of the regular season for the T-Ocho Show and all his other yapping. Coach Belichick indicated that Ochocinco will take over punt return duties and is forbidden from raising his hand for a fair catch citing an obscure Patriot rule barring cowardice in the face of oncoming tacklers. In his monday appearance on WEEI, Belichick unveiled his four-man punt return scheme - three rushers and a returner - to cut down on injuries and rest players for the 18-game schedule in the new CBA.

Have a nice Patriot career Chad.

link.....?

Before this year, Ocho Cinco was not a cancer in Cincinnati.

He played hard no matter the QB.

I firmly believe he would change his ways for Bill.

I almost expect to see him in New England wearing a number other than 85 to show that he isn't all about him.

What the Pats need a young stretch the field receiver -- a rookie who can be the next Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson or Randy Moss. Someone like A.J. Green -- tall, fast, physical, good receiver.

No has beens need apply.

Fitzgerald isn't that fast, for the record. Speed is a generally overrated quality on receivers. If speed was all that mattered Taylor Price would be our #1 WR. It's nice to have, but without the ability to gain separation with competent routes speed is useless unless you're a once in a life time prospect which is what Moss was. Route Running, use of hands at the LOS to beat the jam and body control are what can take an average player (in terms of athletic ability for an NFL player) and make them into a superstar (Rice was a perfect example of this and Fitzgerald is the modern day version) . Not to mention these skills don't deteriorate with age as sharply.

Everyone thought that when Randy Moss came to the Patriots, that he wouldn't fit in the locker room at all, and now its the only place he wants to be. Ochocinco is willing to do anything to get to a winning team and if that means he takes a backseat in the spotlight, im sure he wouldn't mind for one second. Plus BB and 85 already have a good relationship, professional and as friends, this could be a great addition for the patriots.

With 85 also being so vocal about "fighting" Lewis, he could be on his way very early and for a steal like the pats can usually get anyways. 85 could be one of the better pick ups for the patriots in the like few years.

Well, that could be true - if you consider a guy attacking his position coach at halftime of a playoff game not a problem. In Chad's defense he wasn't catching enough balls and had a TD dance he practiced all week. Certainly that was more important than the fact the Bengals were winning the game at the time.

Wat?

I'm pretty sure that's incorrect considering even Chad Ochocinco disagrees with you:

Ochocinco: "I Didn't Lift One Weight" | ProFootballTalk
“I’m not even going to lie to you, I’m going to say it,” Ochocinco said. “Last year, the offseason, I didn’t lift one weight, I didn’t run one route, I didn’t exercise. I didn’t do nothing because my focus was on getting out of a situation I didn’t want to be in. I’m not going to lie.

“I talked to a lot of different people and at that time when I was in shambles or disgruntled, a word a lot of people like to use, I wasn’t listening to any of the information I was getting that was positive,” Ochocinco said. “I went on a rant on my own and was really fussing about things that were out of my control.”

Maybe so but what about Chad Johnson?

Right. Sirius NFL stated that he is legally changing his name back to Chad Johnson.
I'm sure his mother Uno is ecstatic.

Troy Brown tweeted that he believes Chad will be a Patriot next season..

Marvin's trying to do the Jedi mindtrick on Bill.

Chad should go to the Jets. He would be perfect for that team. Hell Terrell Owens should join the Jets too, haha

I've always liked the guy against my better judgment. Can't help it, he's sincere and wants to win. Has some good qualities that coaches like. Has a few that coaches don't like. Personally, I'd love to have him for a late 2nd rounder and a conditional pick base on performance. I just don't know how he fits into the whole Patriot don't say bleep in your press conferences rule. It would be a shame to keep the guy quiet because he really is verbal entertainment galore.

He wants to win so bad that if BB asked him to shut up he would. I like Chad and I think he would fit with this team. I'm not sure but isn't he friends with Branch?

A 2nd and another pick? That is absolutely insane.

Moss was traded for a 3rd. Holmes for a 5th. Branch for a 4th. You want to trade a 2nd? AND another pick for a 33-year old who just had one of his worst seasons?

A 2nd???

This idea that Ochocinco will be a Patriot is just absurd. Maybe Belichick likes the guy on a Pro-Bowl team or something but Ochocinco started 2010 - a year after the Bengals won the AFC Central - being about everything but football. His stupid TV show was a complete distraction - and now Carson Palmer wants out. The Bengals were a an exercize in how many clowns can you fit in the car and Ochocinco was the lead clown. If Wes Welker can't make a crack about Rex Ryan, how in the world does Ochocinco and his act fit?

Deion Branch was a consummate leader when he showed up - did his job, ran his routes, said the right things to the media, worked his ass off with Brady. Ochocinco would have to do all of that and put up numbers. He won't and can't. Mikey Adams had it right last night when he said, "This guy should just set himself on fire, stand on the corner, and yell 'Look at me! Look at me!'

If he comes in at all, it's as a free agent and he'll get cut in camp as an example to guys who need a reminder.

Another wrench as soon Chad was out with injury pamer played better with some good receiver who do not yap.

I think if carson stays i think chad /to out. I think this will be the only way carson can start to turn around his carrier. He has some WR weapons use them and no divas.

Marvin Lewis is a clown. What does he know.

Exactly.

I wonder why this guy still has a job.

Over 8 seasons in Cincy, he has a .469 winning percentage, despite his team having high draft picks each season as a result of his own pathetic mediocrity.

He has mismanaged these drafts, case in point, his first round picks w Cincy:

2003 #1 - Carson Palmer, QB USC
2004 #26 - Chris Perry, RB Michigan
2005 #17 - David Pollack, DE UGA
2006 #24 - Johnathan Joseph, CB SC
2007 #18 - Leon Hall, CB Michigan
2008 #9 - Keith Rivers, LB USC
2009 #6 - Andre Smith, OT Alabama
2010 #21 - Jermaine Gresham, TE Oklahoma

He has been to the postseason twice and lost both games.

He took one of the brightest young QBs in the game (Palmer) and has reduced him to quivering pile of tiger dung.

The only explanation I can come up with as to why Lewis is still working is the NFL's ridiculous hyper-sensitivty to hiring and retaining black coaches.

I could not care less what color a man's skin is, if he's good, he's good, and if he sucks, he sucks.

Marvin Lewis sucks.

I think the window has closed for Chad Palmer in Cincy. He needs a fresh start and he needs to get away from Starvin' Marvin Lewis.

I am sure there are lots of teams that would want a QB with Chad Palmer's talent despite his age.

He still has a few good years left.

Look what Rich Gannon did late in his career in Oakland.

Wow! Eight seasons? The Bungles have led the NFL over that time in several key statistical categories including DUIs, weapons offenses, sexual assaults and durg arrests. Clown central. Marvin lewis sucks!
