Marsh describes Pats as "no fun"

Maroney carried the ball 25 times for 122 yards in the AFC Championship game against the Chargers. It wasn't the only excellent game he had that year, when healthy.
Those were tough yards too. Might have been his best game in the NEP uniform. The JAX game was also a very good one.

One more thing: If Butler had played the same snaps, accounting for matchups, vs Philadelphia that he had vs Tennessee and Jacksonville, AND the offense doesn't commit any of its self-inflicted first half screw-ups, then there is no feckin way that the Pats lose. If Jones had also been available for dime substitutions at the very least, then the Pats would've won by double digits, if not by double touchdowns.

He did have some good games but he should've had more considering he was an afterthought to defenses. He should've had the year Stevan Ridley had his first year toting the rock full time (1,200+ yards 12 TD's). As the primary back in 2007, he had an almost identical year than his rookie year when he shared time with Corey Dillon. That's pretty disappointing. Same could be said with Ben Watson. He should've had a monster year with Moss and Welker commanding so much attention.

The fact that some people on this board think that Butler would'n't have an impact need to watch the first drive of the game again when Alshon Jeffrey faked an inside route and then cut back to the outside leaving Rowe's ankles in the grass on 3rd down which set the tone for the game. That was pathetic. And don't forget Rowe getting torched for the long TD. Take your pick on which one was worse. Butler could've made at least one play to get the defense off the field. We saw what Jeffrey was able to do when Gilmore was covering him - nothing. Butler could've taken on the pedestrian Agholor. The Butler benching still pisses me off.

Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?

(Also, if the offense doesn't commit any of its self-inflicted first half screw-ups, NE wins the game even without the other stuff.)

Like the play Butler made in SB51 to totally lose his man in what would have been an easy TD for Atlanta if he wasn't saved by Hightower sacking Ryan?

Without Butler, they lose the game against the Seahawks.

I'd rather lose with Butler than Rowe and Richards. That can't be argued seriously.

As a general statement of course you would want to go down with your best.

Clearly on that day BB didn't think Malcolm was better.

Can someone do a per game analysis of Butler to see if drop in performance led to the benching?

What thread did I stumble into?

Was just going to say Kobe Bryant was at the OTAs, which was probably FUN! for the guys.

But I see we have Butler 2.0 in here...

As Bryan Cox once wisely noted," If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, everyday would be f###### Christmas." But, they aren't.

Hyperbole but I agree Cap!
Perhaps, but if each of those scenarios (Butler plays, Jones available, 10+ more points during first half) takes place, then we win by two scores (9+) at least...and we all have lots of fun!

Even without Jones, Philly still has to onsides-kick their way to even have a chance at victory.

That the offense would have had to do more than the most record-setting statistical game in Super Bowl history in order to win it should tell you how bad the defense was.

Teams, like corporations have all different mentalities. What works for one person doesn't work for another. Some like structure, other looseness. Obviously a well structured successful team like the Patriots has a way of doing things. While it is not always successful, the successes far outweigh the negatives. That being said, some people don't thrive in that structure. The trick is to find the people who will succeed. Just because it isn't right for you, doesn't mean it's wrong.. Let's see if the Eagles can continue or are they a one hit wonder.. I'm betting that they will find success not as easy when they sit as champions and are the hunted. not the hunters...

Is someone really being foolish enough to blame the offense or defend the defense?
