Mark Anderson's 1st start with majorty of reps -- Brilliant and helped Carter

Most of the rushing yards the Pats gave up were runs up the middle where the Jets doubled up Wilfork and Love.

I would chaulk up the yards the Jets got thru the middle on the fact that Tarpinian and Tracy White played a lot of snaps at LB. Was Guyton inactive last night?

Carter has a great motor work ethic etc. credit due.

Dude is ripped. If we can get a rotation going on the DL, it's going to help all of them. Need Brace and G. Warren to contribute at DT and things are looking a little brighter.

B. Spikes coming back should help run defense. But, I'll sacrifice a little run defense for a better pass rush. D. Fletcher can help too. He's gotta be close to coming back.

I'm stunned beyond belief we held them to 7 pts in the 2nd half without Chung and McCourty. Wow. Just wow!!

To me, Anderson's insertion as a starter made a huge difference last night. Keep him there and let him and Carter go after the QB. We'll worry about teams running the ball on them when some team shows it can and is willing to stick with it. Then, you can put Ellis or preferably Deaderick out there.

I thought the secondary played better last night which helped give the rush time to get to Sanchez. We've become kinda snobbish thinking that unless a player was a 1st round pick or picked to the mythical Pro Bowl that they can't play. Basically, most players were once no-names. Who knows, but Molden, Adams and Moore might actually be better players than Bodden, sanders, butler or Meriweather.

There will be much better quarterbacks and much better teams than the jets in the playoffs.

if they can bring this pass rush with them in the playoffs they will be unstopable

This

The Jets are horrible, Sanchez is beyond bad. A half decent QB will light up the secondary, although i thought Moore looked good last night

Right now I agree.

I was encouraged by Moore and even Adams. Sure they got beat at times but there were others where they had tight coverage to disrupt plays. Arrington played well, was SO close on a potential pick in the EZ.

Also, I am encouraged by Ighedibo as the 2nd safety once Chung is back. He has been a servicable safety at least.

But as you said, the Jets offense is not impressive, there will be better ones that could dismantle this defense, but for one night at least they looked like a solid NFL defense. I hope this sparks them.

The best pass rush is one that gets there using only four to five guys with the rest dropping back into coverage. Considering our play in the secondary this year, if Anderson and Carter can keep getting into the backfield without us having to send the blitz too much, it will greatly help the defense.

The Jets still are a team that went to the AFC championship the last 2 years...most people on this board and the analysts on tv were basically giving the pats no chance this game....theres no need to discount anytime the Pats defense plays a solid game...they played great. now they have to keep it up the rest of the season into the playoffs

If you have a solid pass rush, it WILL disrupt most QB's and make your secondary look better.

I think what Anderson brings to the table is that he is FAST, so the tandem of him/carter rushing the sides really puts pressure on the QB...hes a liability in the run though(although i wouldnt be worried once Spikes comes back)...we also put the jets in alot of 2nd-3rd and long situations where you know the Jets are going to pass so we can commit him/carter to rushing the qb

Kudos to Anderson, he and Carter were both getting good pressure around the edges all night it seemed.

I did miss a sack of his at the end to ice the game though, that always seems to happen when we win

No.

I've got no beef with the rest of your post, but as for this....

No. Just, no.

Actually. I do think that the O-line of the Jets is one of their stronger attributes (which admittedly doesn't say much). The bigger problem is that Sanchez sucks so bad, he makes them look worse then they actually are.

Sanchez had that deer in the headlights look all damn game last night. We were getting pressure because of his poor play as much as from the o-line (although D-brick had a bad game). A lot of our sacks came well into play cuz Sanchez had NO IDEA what to do with the ball last night.

As an O-line, you really should only have to protect for 3-5 seconds on pass plays, not 8-10. If your QB is gonna hold the ball that long, NO O-Line is gonna look good.

If you listen to 3 hours of brainwashing jibber jabber by Collingsworth/Michaeals this may be true, but after closer review of the ballwashing about how great the Jets are.. it simply is not true.

They have 2 really good offensive lineman, the rest of them not as much so.

u beat me to it.. D'Brick and Mangold are the only two good players on that OL. Their Guards are below avg and have been problems for them all season.

Stronger attributes is not the same as "great", though. That's a 2 player line, with Mangold being the best in the business at his position and D'Bust being a pretty solid, but wildly overrated, left tackle. The rest of the starters, and all of the backups, are just at various levels of suck.

I thought Brandon Moore was allegedly pretty decent. Can't say for certain as I haven't really focused on him...ever.

Slauson and Hunter are terrible, agreed.

on the radio, they made a good point. Sanchez is a guy who is going to follow the play that is called for him and generally throw to the guy it was made for. he's not someone who is going to make reads of all his receivers...when you cover the guy the play is made for, he doesnt know what to do. I thought we had pretty good coverage on his receivers last night

Moore seems to have taken a huge step back. I may be unfairly denigrating him for overextending in an attempt to make up for Hunter taking over for Woody and, if that's what it is, I'm sure the Jets fans that are all eagerly waiting to post on Patsfans.com today will proffer rational and well-thought out arguments to that effect.

Seriously. How many times did Anderson knife in there? He looked fantastic, and so many times he got the initial pressure on Sanchez, and Carter cleaned up.

Say what you want about the Jets O -- but they do have a great offensive line. After ditching Haynesworth and making Shaun Ellis a rotational guy, Mark Anderson got his first start where he saw the majority of the snaps at LDE. He had 4.5 sacks as just a situational guy playing very, very sparingly. Clearly, more reps helped him out. He was so good tonight at pressuring Sanchez that -- as Collinsworth pointed out -- the Jets kept a TE to that side and kept Tomlinson in to pass block on that side too. The result? He got pressure and freed up Andre Carter - who lined up against D'Brick, with no help - and those two were able to generate more pressure tonight than all season long; when Carter was really the only constant pass rush threat. 4.5 sacks for him. 0.5 for Anderson, with many pressures. Best pass rush NE has shown in a long time.

But we need to credit Mark Anderson just as much as anyone. I think he is legit. With an actual pass rush tandem; this team could be so much better, especially with the injured players coming back.

Brilliant OP!! :rocker:

I've always dug Anderson and campaigned to pick'm up...and last night was an HUGE step.

while it still remains to be seen if they can consistently apply pressure like they did last night, hats off to the BB and the rest of the coaching staff for coming up with that scheme/paring.

That was what this D needed, it truely is amazing how a good pass rush makes a secondary better. A secondary of no-names was able to cover their respective receivers because the DL and the LB were getting to the QB consistently.

Now to consistently do that week-in and week-out.

I like the rest of your post, but can't agree with the bolded.

It was crystal clear after two X games that these guys need to be out there together.

Mad Bill is often way too conservative...often fatally so.

to be honest the jets oline is not good and sanchez can make it look worse because he is terrible at identifying the pass rush disguises and blitzes. in obvious passing downs our pass rush was all over him . Only in play action were they successful.
