My take on him is that he's a Great story battling his adversities he has really come on this year. After beind thrusted in the Starting lineup because of injuries. I love Seabass Vollmer but if they are all at full strenght what becomes of Cannon? I personally feel that Cannon vastly imporoves our running game he's not perfect in pass protection but if we can run it effectively the Defense will be vulnerable to playaction and the O-linemen can dig in advantage O. I feel that Cannon has the make of a RT we have been looking for with his Size to wear down opposing D-Linemen I think It's going to be difficult to keep him out of the Starting line-up barring injuries...thoughts?

He should get a chance to contend for the starting RG spot again next offseason, otherwise he'll end up as the backup RG and RT for a year before going to another team in free agency in March 2015.

He is absolutely a starting caliber tackle in this league he just likely isnt better than Seabass and Solder. I personally have thought he does not look good at guard so I think with us he will be the back up tackle until he is either a free agent or if Seabass keeps getting slowed by injuries.

Good problem to have as you need at least 3 capable tackles to get a through a season.

my hope is he beats out Connolly for the starting RG next year and Connolly beats out Wendell.

Cannon provides great depth and is a very good talent and it'd be great to keep him. It would also allow us absolute flexability on the OL with Mankins and Cannon both being able to play tackle as well as Guard at a high level.

The reality is that we are extremely fortunate to have such depth on the OL that we have our best 2 tackles and another backup out and we still put together that type of performance against a good Baltimore front.

I don't like Cannon at RT. I really wish the team would give him a shot at RG, since he seems to me like he's basically a JAG at RT anyway. I'm sure Scarnecchia has his reasons, though.

The run game has seemed to be at its best when he's in. I don't know if its just coincidence but he's looked good to me.

Reiss' "Picked up pieces" posts are ragging on Cannon's play vs. the Ravens. 2 missed run blocks in the first quarter, 2 penalties in the second.

So, he's a JAG RT and isn't as good as Connolly at RG.

I would think that Cannon is a perfect backup.

He had a brutal stretch yesterday

I agree, he has really stepped up and become a serviceable graduate of the Dante Scarnecchia academy. This best thing I can say is "I hardly ever hear his name being called" which is exactly what you want from a backup offensive lineman.

I think Marcus needs to stop watching the how to pass block film of by Max Lane.

My base case for him is that he's one the guys who leaves the Patriots for JAG starter's money elsewhere -- like Donald Thomas, Russ Hochstein, Tom Ashworth (although I'm not sure he ever started) et al.

He was awful on more than 1 occasion yesterday I thought this was going to be a rant thread. Scar can really coach them up he's nothing special.

Agreed. We start pretty well going into this offseason (presuming that this year's veteran loss will be Svitek) with Connolly and Cannon going into their contract year.

Solder, Mankins, ???, Connolly, Vollmer
Cannon, Kline, Zuscevics
Barker, Cave, Davey, Dill

For me, the obvious best addition is to re-sign Wendell. I would also add a draft choice who would be expected to replace Cannon or Connolly in 2015.

Re-sign Wendy? Mmm...No.

Re-place Wendy? Mmm...Yes.

That RG could be Cannon perhaps.
I still feel that the best OL combo with Solder & Svitek healthy is:
Solder - Mankins - Connolly - Cannon - Svitek
Unfortunately, that would leave ourselves without a Swing Tackle,
but at least it would place our best linemen on the field at the same time.

I think many fans underestimate how difficult it is to play even slightly injured in the NFL, as well as having to adjust to new OL position seemingly every week.

If this wasn't the Pats and Scar, we would probably be looking at a disaster.

One position for one week, you can cover up an injury. But what we're seeing i'm actually amazed it hasn't been worse.

Personally I think Cannon, and who knows how many of our OL are still playing hurt, and they wouldn't even be in there if it wasn't all-hands-on-deck time.

Hope it holds for a few more games of course...

Marcus seems to be having issues with speed, technique and effort, and he seems to be mentally slow at times, as well. He's been a disappointment so far, but that may come from having been trained as a backup at both positions instead of focusing on just one position, and his medical issues certainly didn't help him in his early development. He's got plenty of room to improve and is still young enough to do just that.

I'm still of the notion that he might be better served as a very large and powerful guard than as a slow and inconsistent tackle. Having him in the lineup at right guard along with Vollmer at RT and Mankins at LG might just make the best 3-man pull-blocking group in the league on pull play to the right. Of course, the Patriots see him daily in practice, and they see the little things over time that we just can't.
