It's easy, and only takes a few moments. He hasn't looked good in the preseason because the Patriots specifically used the preseason to work on his weaknesses (short touch throws) rather than show off his skills (throwing down the field). Both O'Brien and McDaniels, the two most likely suitors, would have a pretty good idea of what he's capable of because they could see it every day in practice for a year and two years, respectively. We'd be lucky to get a 3rd round pick for Mallett at this point. He hasn't had a chance to play in the regular season, and he hasn't looked good in the pre season.
My best guess is that Daboll is the clear top candidate at OC if McDaniels is gone.We still have Brian Daboll even too i'll rather have him as the NeXT OL coach IF (god forbidden) we need a new one.
Agree, something in the mid 70's is what I'm hoping forWe'd be lucky to get a 3rd round pick for Mallett at this point. He hasn't had a chance to play in the regular season, and he hasn't looked good in the pre season.
I'd say current WR coach Chad O'Shea would become the next OC, he;s been praised league wide for his work with rookie WRs this past season. He'd also keep the Irish tradition going (JMcD, BOB, JMcD) hahahahahaMy best guess is that Daboll is the clear top candidate at OC if McDaniels is gone.
I'm still holding out hope that Brian Ferentz is their next OL coach. He has three years of coaching under Belichick, including the distinction of being the TE coach for the best season by one team's TEs in NFL history. He's currently coaching the OL under his dad at Iowa, ironically also working with DJ Hernandez, the Iowa TE coach.

I'd expect the Browns to have interest in him this off-season, especially pre-draft with Lombardi loving him, even without a JMcD signing or BOB signingEven that seems unlikely to me. Maybe now with more guys having gotten hurt but I just don't see it as very likely
Mallett's market value:
A bag of peanuts
The Texans would be insane to pass up Teddy BW and trade for Mallett. 0% chance that happens IMO. Mallett is a guy you bring in to compete for a job. You certainly don't pass up a guy with TBW's talent and potential for him.
You might if you're salivating at the prospect of pairing Clowney with Watt. Or trading back for a bunch of picks like St. Louis got.
In the National Football League the quarterback position is about 10 times more valuable than a D lineman. Especially when you already have a stud pass rusher.
If they think they can trade down bc they like one of the other three top QBs then I suppose that's an option...but it's risky.
2006 NFL Draft
1. Mario Williams
2. Reggie Bush
3. Vince Young.
I'm not sure what Mallett's trade value is. There is just so little actual real game tape on him, that it makes it very difficult for any team to judge his true value. But the fact is that there will be a market for him this off season, and this will be the time to move him. The QB crop this season looks good but not great. There are no Lucks out there, but a lot of Tannyhill types
It will all depend on how the rest of the league views the Pats QB development program. Cassell was a 7th round pick who never started a college game, and he's had his moments both good and bad. The same could be said for the undrafted Hoyer, who was deemed good enough by BB to be Brady's only back up as a rookie. and who flashed in a positive manner in his time with the Browns. But he'll be coming off an ACL.
Regardless of whether the Pats trade Mallett, I think the back role will be well filled because either Hoyer or Cassell will very likely be available this off season, maybe even both

I think if we want anything significant for Mallett then it's McDaniels/Mallett to Cleveland or bust. Certainly the fact that Lombardi liked Mallett in that draft, the reported interest last year and the interest in McDaniels suggests the possibility of Mallett to Cleveland. The other side of the coin is that if McDaniels goes to Cleveland and they don't trade for Mallett then you can kiss goodbye to any picks other than day 3 ones.
