Pretend I'm saying this slowly:

Zappe wasn't overrated.

The only time we beat Buffalo we ran the ball.

Eason never could have won six straight as Grogan did - he'd have gone 2-4.

Individual statistics do not tell the comprehensive story.

It wasn't the weather in Buffalo - it was the strategy. Did you see how the Bengals won there?

You're 100% right about the league.

pass happy=stupid

The only time the Pats beat Buffalo was when they ran the ball IN A BLIZZARD WHERE THE BILLS DIDN‘T HAVE ALLEN THROW THE BALL UNTIL TOWARDS THE END OF THE GAME. Pretend I said that slowing. Stop pretending that that was a normal game.

And BTW, the Bengals won in a bad weather game where throwing was an issue. And the Bengals passed 36 times vs. 35 runs in that game. And the Bengals got up to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter and never had less than a TD lead the rest of the game. So they could run more to protect the lead. And Burrow had two passing TDs vs the Bengals having on rushing TD. This game was nothing like what I was talking about with Zappe. This is a huge stretch on your part to compare the two.

Mac is going to be a career backup. We’re just going to waste another season pretending he could be something more.

Anything he does as a QB there’s 15 guys who do that better in the league.

Thankfully, there is an objective measure of success called wins and losses. Quarterback performance is integral to that. If Mac flounders, he'll be gone.

And what did the Bears do? They didn’t even try to rush Zappe. They just tried to clog the passing lanes and bat down balls. When they knew Zappe was passing all the time, they didn’t have to concern themselves with trying to stop the run and they could use his height to his disadvantage.

That’s more on the coaching staff to not roll him out or scheme to take advantage of the formations.

Maybe Zappe needs to work on a higher release point but Murray and Brees made it in the nfl.

Tom had like five snaps in '00 and watched a lot from the stands.

The team last year had a more than good enough, opportunistic defense, and ran the ball well.

I'm not happy about it, but I expect decline this year and another losing season.

I realize that Brady didn’t play much his first season, but Belichick coached the QB’s that season and did film study with them every week, which gave Brady the time to fully learn the offense before having to run it. Zappe had no such opportunity, instead he was stuck with Patricia and Judge learning an offense they didn’t even understand. Again, I’m not knocking Zappe, and I agree that the defense was good, but the offense was a mess, and even the special teams sucked. I just don’t think that team had a hope in hell going anywhere, regardless of who played QB. I hope whomever the QB is this season has a much better year, but unfortunately as things stand right now it’s hard to see them having a playoff season. Maybe Belichick and his coaches can have an incredible year coaching this team, because if they don’t then it’s going to be a long season.

I voted for Mac because he is the best option for the team to be successful next year. He the talent to warrant being drafted in the first round. It is in the best interest of the team to develop that potential. If he does not show progress or gets beaten out by Zappe that means the the team is starting over at the most important position which is not the fastest route back to contending.

I see what you did there.

Shhhhhh, don't worry, tons of these about Brady from '01

This is what he's talking about. Guy has one really good game and a decent stretch of 4 games and we are declaring him Brady. If the "zappe hour!" Crew wasn't so over the top ridiculous I don't think people would mind as much.

Minshew had a better run and look at him now. Not saying they have the same trajectory. But let's slow our roll and see what happens.

I mean what do you guys think of Brock Purdy then? Must be the GOAT.

Agree with Team Patriot (whoever is best/rooting for whoever it is) first and foremost. But for discussion's sake ... I would be willing to bet that Mac will be a solid quarterback for the Pats over the next decade. He was good at Bama, had a historically good rookie season, and took a step back partly due to the clown show, but his fault too. But that happens and is a part of development. I think he overcomes and has a Pro Bowl season this year -- noting it could be as the 5th alternate

Murray is a mobile QB. Not a fair comparison. And the Saints always invested big money in having one of the best O-lines in the league.

This is the fallacy of the league I'm talking about.

It's stupid to abandon the run because you're behind.

Even when it's a sizable deficit, especially when you can run the ball effectively, you need to utilize it.

The dropping-the-quarterback-back-to-pass-every-time works when there's no time left and seconds are precious and there's no more timeouts, or if your quarterback is Tom Brady.

It could be.

The Bears were not going to allow BB to pass George Halas in most wins against them.

Brady might have pulled off a win that night.
Emotional engagement is very relevant in pro sports, especially football.

When one team is fired up with a singular, unified cause, such as:

'85 Dolphins MNF unbeaten season record in jeopardy of being tied/bettered

'10 Jets playing for Dennis Byrd and pissed about getting the crap kicked out of them by the same team recently

'22 Bears going nowhere suddenly with a MNF game with something to play for and nothing to lose

...and their opponent is mixed up, confused, not all there and not 100%:

'85 Fuller starting mostly relying on beating teams up being assh*les anyway and relying on adrenaline and bullsh*t to be motivated

'10 Welker sitting out the first series and being fat & happy with being 14-2 and having kicked the crap out of the same team recently

(1980 Olympic hockey Russians?)

'22 Having the guy who sucked before he got hurt put back in there as the starter after his backup made the team look great

It isn’t a fallacy that teams run more later in the game when they have the lead to eat up clock time especially if they are running effectively. That is what Cincy did vs. Buffalo in the playoffs. If you look early in the game, Burrow was passing quite a bit early in the game and got his two TDs for the game in the first quarter (the first two drives of the game for Cincy) and then the Bengals started to go more run heavy protecting a lead trying to keep the ball out of Allen’s hands.

And we are talking about the Lions game where the Pats over emphasized the run and ran nearly twice as many running plays as they did passing plays in that game. One thing you cannot do if you are down later in the game is nearly abandon the passing game and go run heavy. That is what the Pats did against the Lions.

im all for mac he deserves to see with a quality coach

that is what we need to do for mac to succeed as well imo. That is one of the reason why an OT pick in the first rd would have a much bigger impact than a WR to our passing game success

I'm on team Patriots. To quote a great man who we all know, "I just like winning." I could care less who is under center as long as they are winning.

I could have a team of the biggest criminals and thugs as long as they are winning.
It will be line the longest Yard.
