Losing the first pick in the Buffalo game Thoughts

You could start by not blitzing the Bills scrubs in the 4th quarter.

Maybe not run Gibson in the second half. Throw to Baker and Bell, maybe, instead of launching 23 of the 29 passes to Boutte/Gibson/Douglas/Hooper.

Maybe do the run-run-throw boring style you did al f***ing year. You can't ask the players to not play hard, but you don't have to dial up blitzes and leave a bunch of starters in for the whole damned game.

Two unwatchable years, and now an off-season that will be far, far less interesting (and if they had the #1 pick, the most money to spend in FA, and Drake Maye, they would be a lot more attractive to coaches/gms). When you think about the amount of rebuilding capital they threw away for a meaningless win, it's

If Mayo believed he was staying he may not like to coach to lose the game on purpose. I wish he had but may send a very bad message to the players.

I like the idea of a lottery but that won't stop teams like the Chiefs and Bills from mailing it in.
True, but then a team like the Patriots would still have a shot at the 1st pick (albeit not as good a shot) if there was weighted lottery. It’s used in the NHL and NBA.

50: I was pissed too but losing Mayo is the silver lining.

This whining about the 1st overall pick is getting old. The last team to win a superbowl with their #1 pick was the Colts with Peyton.

The Chargers had drafted Eli but were forced to trade him for a haul to the Giants but never won squat with the haul either.

The #1 has one of the worst correlations to winning. This isn't the NBA where the top 3 picks are typically the best in the draft and can turn a franchise around.

Exactly
100%

I blame Mayo.

I’m copying and pasting a post I just wrote in another thread because it’s relevant here.

As of right now, and it will wear off, I hate Mayo. I believe he schemed last year to take Belichick’s job. I think he undermined him with players, coaches, staff, and Kraft. I think he leaked dirt all year to Tom Curran. He got his way and then was miles over his head as head coach. He has no idea how to even do the job.

Then knowing he was going to be fired, screwed the organization and its fans over by playing too many starters late against 2nd and 3rd stringers in a meaningless game which cost us the number one pick. We went from the first overall to fourth that is a huge difference. We could have easily traded down from 1 to 3 or 4 and added a couple of early rounders which would have been huge in the rebuilding process. I don’t know if he did it out of spite or stupidity, but he screwed us. F him.

I think it’s hilarious to say this team couldn’t possibly figure out a way to lose a game, are you serious?

The pats easily could’ve lost yesterday, and there would not have been an “investigation” lol

Once again, I blame Kraft mostly. He’s run successful businesses for years, would he say to another company leader, “you’re fired as of today, but before you leave please make this big decision for the organization.” The mind freaking reels.

The Bills were also trying to lose.

I'm not terribly upset about losing the number one pick. I would rather that and have Mayo gone, than have Mayo stay with the first choice in the draft. Additionally, many mock drafts have the Titans and Browns picking quarterbacks, which the Patriots were not going to do. Since the Titans and Browns were aware of this, it's questionable that they would have made a trade of any substance to obtain the number one pick from the Pats had we not won on Sunday. In essence, the Patriots lose the number three pick to the Giants, whom many believe will pick Hunter. Hunter's utility to the Pats has been debated by many posters. I think it's fair to say that losing the opportunity to draft Hunter will not be as consequential to the franchise as losing the chance to draft Maye would have been last year.

This fanbase has really gone downhill. So much whining because another team didn't do something that harmed themselves to help the Pats. Stop expecting others to solve your problems. Teams have been sitting their starters since the NFL existed.

Also, people who think Mike White.. Mike White.. was purposefully sailing balls. He's a practice squad QB and a bad one. This place has become unhinged over 3 draft spots. Outside of 2 non-awful games with the Jets.. he always looks like this.
Thank you! The crying over our team not trying even harder to lose a game is pathetic.

They clearly wanted to lose based on the players they played but you can't expect them to force the players to throw the game. We got unlucky because the Bills did not want to win and our backup QB outplayed theirs.

Actually, we’re just annoyed that the team failed to do what it should have done. The Pats this season were pathetic.

He just needed to buy 53 "Orchids of Asia North" gift certificates, redeemable 1AM-4AM Sunday Jan 5.

What do rich people do to offset capital gains? They take an L.

Sell off an underappreciated asset and use the loss to offset taxes on gains.

The number 1 pick was our capital gain. Our season was basically the under appreciated asset. We should have taken the L.

Pats trade our freshly showcased Joe Milton and our 4 to Titans for their 1.
