LOL @ the NFL: Cracking Down on Player Celebrations

I hear ya Tunes but they've banned group celebrations so players are left celebrating by their lonesome while teammates try not to get to close, it's awkward and weird. I forget what team it was last year that was penalized for a group celebration, it was more of a semi-celebration, again it was awkward because they half a55ed in fear of the rule....

Who initially decided celebrations should be banned? Owners, fans, teams, commish?

Spontaneous group celebrations should be allowed. It's the preplanned choreographed ones that got them banned by the league altogether, which is a shame.

The NFL has back-tracked and said this is only directed at celebrations towards opponents.

I don't think it was a matter of "back-tracking," that's what they specified originally. So in other words, Gronk needs to make sure that his spikes don't bounce the wrong way and hit an opposing player or it's 15 yards on the ensuing kickoff.

10 years until it's flag football......F these rules

Well, after further review, this rule emphasis appears to be more aimed at first down celebrations, and only those directed at an opponent. So I guess Gronk's TD spikes are still OK for now (as long as he doesn't do it anywhere in the area code of a defender).

Pity. I was looking forward to Gronk pretending he was going to spike but instead gently placing the ball down and patting it.
