Lloyd being Lloyd

this guy catches everything thrown at him it seems...no matter how ****ty the pass

He has had plenty of experience. Looks who he has had for QBs...
Tim Rattay, Ken Dorsey, Alex Smith, Jason Campbell, Todd Collins,Marc Brunell, Kyle Orton, Chris Simms,Tebow, Kellen Clemens and A. J. Feeley.
Foxboro must feel like Disneyworld.....

I'll take hands over speed any day.
You will never get a speaking invitation from the Al Davis Receiver School.

But you can speak here any time. Remind us again that Fred Belitnikof lacked foot speed but had hands and moves reminiscent of, ohhh, say, Brandon Lloyd.

I agree that Lloyd wouldn't have been needed to make the difference last year. Any competent NFL receiver that didn't have his head up his ass would have at least given us more than 2-3 options, including Hernandez, once Gronk went down.

I think Lloyd will make the team better with his knowledge of the system, though Moss was a phenomenal talent.

I love the Pats and the organization to death.

But they really messed up not going after Lloyd last year. Not stepping up cost them last years SB. The Giants wouldn't have been able to clog the middle with Lloyd on the outside.

He could have stepped in mid season no problem. He already knew the playbook

First, the Pats did try to trade for Lloyd. They wanted Lloyd to sign a multiyear deal in the trade and Lloyd wanted none of it. He was hoping to cash in this past offseason.

Second, someone else said, the Pats were a minute away from winning the Super Bowl and if Gronk was healthy, they probably would have won.

Lloyd was my #1 free agent target because I felt he would be a perfect fit. He hasn't disappointed yet, but it is only day 3 of training camp. I am not ready to make him a 1,300 yard plus receiver just yet.

2008 and 2012 SBs were so similar that ways. So many woulda coulda shouldas. So many plays where you say "they got the calls/they got the bounces/they got the breaks."

Sorta like what they said about us in 2001-2004.

The margin's razor-thin in every SB for the Pats so far, win or lose.

Here's hoping we put together the formula for the bounces to go our way again... or for once, to be up by 14 in the fourth quarter.

Lloyd is going to be so good in this offense that only a fool would think he wouldn't have made the difference in a win

You sound pretty sure of yourself. I assume this means that you are now on record predicting that the Pats will win the SB this year because they now have Lloyd?

Lloyd is OK I guess...but c'mon...he's no Chaz Schilens...:stars2:

Get ready to see a lot of this next year

Bill O'Brien lost the super bowl, period. First and ten from your two, first quarter...and...
Fast forward to the fourth. O line playing with tenacity when allowed to fire off and dictate tempo. The answer? Pass the rock, and let an over matched and hobbled oline play from their heels against the strength of the giants d. Punt. First and ten from your seven(?), nine minutes left with a small lead. What downs syndrome nitwit trots out empty backfield five wide in Madden let alone real life. Keep in mind he got punched in the d*ck passing cute like that in the first quarter. That jerk deserves the mess that is penn state. Out of all the things that went against us, these three drives were derailed by one coaches inexcusable ****y assumption that his qb was simply too good. Obviously he didn't watch any film from 07...where similar mistakes (albeit an underperforming oline/rb tandem helped contribute, certainly but the case last year) were made and arguably hurt the pats in that game as well. This isn't 20/20 hindsight, the fiance can attest to the obscenities being screamed at a tv (during both failed drives mind you) in miserable Florence N.C, in a holiday inn while on a road trip...

Now to keep things on topic...I believe Lloyd will be the randy we wish randy was. Fighting for balls, blocking, being much more than a decoy while playing the decoy at the same time. In short, dynamic.

Reading this quality post made me think this is how the Pats must make other OCs feel every week. Frustrating as all hell im sure. Then, we argure here back and forth its so easy, if the defense takes away your best option A, just move to the weakness they create against your next best option B, C, D or E. Buuuuut.. in reality this goes agaist human nature. Players and coaches are emotional attached, selective in memory, slow to recognize, and even more difficult to believe it even if someone shows them all is true, now... try it all under a minute.

That might be why the BB defensive methodolgy of first taking away their best offensive option, and dealing with their adjustments from there works so well.

They OC really can't just let it got. It's like a destructive breakup. Keep doing the same things again all game.

I don't get it. Chaz Schilens?!? Who the hell is he? He had Ochostinko numbers with the Raiders 2011 and looks like Herman Munster lining up on the outside. Here's a 33 second video with 50% of his 2011 TDs: Carson Palmer throws it up to chaz Schilens for TD - YouTube

He's an injury-prone 7th rounder out of San Diego State.

I didn't troll the JI Board on this guy, but if they hope he's an answer with Santonio Holmes in the slot and Sanchez at the controls, the Jets passing game is going to be horrific. Worse if Tebow takes the top job.

I hope this is the guy they are counting on to lead them to the promised land: 4th in the AFC East.

Great to read all the TC posts about Brandon Lloyd. Reminiscent of Moss' first TC.

Hey chaz, I hear you can now get "Ochocinco" to match your number, now that Johnson's Johnson again.

So far everything I've read about Brandon Lloyd is that he's on the same page as Brady already. It reminds me of Randy actually. There was never any doubt that he belonged, and I see nothing but the same for Lloyd.

To wit (published camp report):

Hey, I don't know about you but I think it was great to see that Moore is still in position to make plays. He got beaten but probably anybody would have been beaten.

Moore may be good. I remember watching Hobbs at TC and games. That little guy could stick with his man like he was their shadow when he had man coverage. Being in position isn't everything...

There was plenty of blame to go around. People always want to blame Super Bowl losses on the OC apparently (a lot of people still blame McDaniels for the first giants Super Bowl loss). It is silly to blame either one for the loss. You can point to a number of individual performances that caused either losses that if any one of them performed correctly, the Pats would have won. Everyone wants to Monday Morning QB and rip apart the offensive strategy.

The first and ten at the 2 was all Brady's fault though. It isn't a stupid play to go deep on that play as long as the QB knows that if the play doesn't develop or the rush comes to quickly to dump the ball and take the loss of downs. Brady was just dumb on that play and just hucked the ball down field without seeing if there was a receiver anywhere in the area. Most defenses read that play as a running play to buy some room which usually leaves a favorable match up down the field that can result in a big play including a TD.

Was it the smartest play? Probably not, but with Brady as your QB it isn't a bad play. If executed correctly, it is a play that could have changed the course of the entire game. You would expect Brady to have the awareness to dump the ball into a spot where there is a receiver is close. But usually in the regular season, they don't call intentional grounding on a play like that. The problem with that play wasn't the call, it was the execution. There is a safety valve for that play to avoid the sack and Brady tried to use it. He just made a stupid throw. That is on Brady, not O'Brien.

His actual production may not be very significant. Its the production of the entire receiving corps that matters, because they work as a group. What Lloyd may do to draw coverage helps the team as much as catching a pass.
Gronk is a perfect example. He had the best season any TE has ever had in NFL history. The response of defenses this year to that almost surely figures to result in lesser numbers for Gronk, but the focus on him creates opportunities elsewhere, and especially if that is exploited with big plays, it just makes the offense better overall. Who the recipient of that is doesn't much matter to me.
