Saying that Mayo needs to win a SB in 3, 4 or 5 years of he's fired as lunacy lol.

What he does need to show in that timeframe, is good direction. In that span, he should have a strong roster in place that looks to be a viable threat for deep playoff runs. But he doesn't need to actually get over the hump and win one. That's ridiculous lol

Agreed! I believe he will. A huge advantage that Mayo has over any 1st time coach is that he was drafted and coached under Bill. He has a wealth of knowledge from him. He's seen first hand how to handle his staff, roster and basically run an organization. I believe that the organization, and us the fans just want winning football again!

Here's a name to monitor this offseason at WR:

Mike Williams. Chargers are likely to cut ties with him due to their awful cap situation and his major contract.

Dude is coming off of an ACL tear, but likely should be ready to go for next year since it was early in the season. Before the injury, he showed the previous two seasons he can be a high end 2/solid 1. Could come somewhat cheap on a 1 year prove it deal this year. Maybe just put him in the role we wanted for Devante Parker when he came in.

I can't imagine we'll land any WRs on cheap, 1 year prove it deals. Put yourselves in the shoes of the player... is this a good offensive situation to walk into and "prove it"? The QB position is unsettled and probably being addressed with a fringe veteran or an unproven rookie. The OT spot is barren heading into FA. There's no real viable receivers or TE under contract that will draw attention off of you. The OC hasn't called players before.

I'm not trying to be so doom and gloom as to say no one will come here or anything, just that we don't really profile well for the type of player you're describing. Guys signing 1 year prove it deals will do it with better situations.

Hopefully it works out. That hasn't panned out well for BB's past disciples though...

I think Ryan Clark made a really good point though in that one advantage Mayo has over other BB assistants is that he got to witness bad times as well as good times. Other past assistants who failed after they left to be HCs only had the experience of seeing the team waltz to the AFC title game pretty much every year. They never got to see the darker side of things like Mayo has these past few years. He got to see what does and doesn't work during the harder times. So that's experience Mayo gained that really no other past assistants have.

Other big difference is Mayo played for Belichick and was called Jerod Belichick by his teammates. As an ex-player he won't have the chemistry issues w/ the players that the other disciples had, by all accounts.

Well maybe we don't get him on the cheap, but basically just pay him a decent amount on a very short term deal. Could be one of the few places he has a chance to be a #1 WR. Most other teams in the league seem like they have a viable option.

would you consider OBJ?

He was an expensive piece for Baltimore last year at $16m (with incentives earned)... doubt he will get that much in '24... be a good swap out for parker or jjss...

go after Pittman or Higgins, have a receiver group of Pittman/Higgins - Bourne - Douglas ... a better starting three than we've had over the past few years...

I don't know why we would look at old bandaid receivers, what is the best case they play well enough to win us a extra game or two then leave?

If someone is going to help us win, I'd prefer they are long enough to at least potentially see us get better.

Agreed! I would, he's still a good player. He's in a perfect role in B more. I really like Pittman Jr. Guy fights for the ball. Higgins is a baller.. he goes up and gets it out the sky!

It's a balancing act because having good vets in place can really help develop guys. Think about it... if we draft a WR, wouldn't it be nice to have a mentor for him? And if we draft a QB, you want respectable talent to throw to so he can have decent enough results not to kill his confidence. And if we play poorly on offense overall, then the same fan/media toxicity will plague the team that we've seen in recent years and make it miserable for everyone and potentially stunt their development if they're in bad head space.

It wouldn't be a good strategy to just throw out an entire roster of rookie contract guys. That's just not a good environment for guys to develop in. But yeah, can't go the other way and just fill the whole roster with 30 year old stop gaps either so we can go 7-10 vs. 4-13 again.

Boy for some reason I'm not very high on Pittman his numbers are good but he just doesn't move the needle for me personally.

No? interesting... i have no reservations about targeting a 100 (99 in 2022, 109 in 2023) catch receiver in free agency.

maybe get your needle checked?

Higgins and Pittman are such different players. Higgins is an outside the numbers, down the field threat. He's a guy who contributes not just in terms of his own production, but the impact he has on defenses and how they can play others. He's a guy who threatens defenses vertically and can push safeties back to open up room underneath. Pittman on the other hand, seems like a higher volume but lower yards per catch guy. He's not going to open up space for others necessarily, but he'll bring you a reliable target.

Personally, I'd rather go for Higgins skill set because I like the impact that skill set can have on others. More room for Pop Douglas underneath in the slot. More room for Bourne if he comes back. More room for Henry if he comes back. Less crowded boxes for Stevenson. With Pittman, I think he'll add a clear new best target, but I think the offense would still be congested and crowded with a bunch of underneath targets.

I still have a stronger belief in Bourne than most. I think he's a capable WR2 when healthy and in a functioning offense.

Thank you nailed it that's my feelings about Pittman I just couldn't say it like you. Higgins is just so ridiculous with his catch radius he can beat you inside and out with his Big Body and Speed.

Bourne is going need a year no thanks.

If this is referring to Williams, I wouldn't call him and old band-aid. I think there's plenty left in the tank with a guy like him.

Odell Beckham to me is more of a prime example of being an old, band-aid option.

We know for a fact he won't be ready for next season? His injury wasn't that late into the season.

Also, he would likely come back very cheap thanks to the injury. What would be the harm in bringing him back?
