Lets add Vollmer to the pile: Week 17 Injury Watch

Too bad that Chao is the Lester Munson of medical analysis. But I hope that in this case he happens to be correct.
Chao said if Vollmer has a high ankle sprain, it is uncertain if he would return for the divisional round or, if he did, how effective he would be. Is there something in this assertion that you disagree with or find contentious?

The great thing about the emergence of Ryan/Butler at corner and the overall defense is that it allows belichick to go all out on in improving the offensive line this offseason.

When was the last time we had a great offensive line?

The thing about Chao is it seems he waits until there is some information and then he offers his opinion. For example, I read the Patriots were hopeful of a Vollmer high ankle sprain & then heard from Chao. As I recall same was true of Gronk, McCourty and others.

Probably 2011 when we had Light, Waters, Mankins, Vollmer

It's ugly right now, real ugly.

rest hightower v dolphins. i know we stink down there BUT miami has bagged it. we will win. get the guys back for the divisional round and we are golden i say

That is total and utter horsecrap. He very often posts his immediate prediction in the middle of the game once he gets to see some tape of how the injuries happened. But you can't expect him to watch all games that are going on simultaneously.

I'm not sure what the Patriots can do in the draft. They dont have a 1st rounder, and the draft this year doesn't have many good tackle candidates who are expected to be there after the Patriots pick. Besides that, they just sent a 3rd and 4th rounder on 2 guards. Trey Jackson and Shaq Mason. With Bryan Stork at center, and David Andrews a good backup, I dont see much change in the OL. Especially with all the money they've invested in Vollmer and Solder. So I dont see any improvement. They could use an upgrade over Marcus Cannon as a backup.

Yeah, it's not that the Pats haven't invested draft capital on the line, it's that there have been injuries and rookies. They need health and experience, not more new guys (I agree about Cannon, but I'm hopeful.)

Like others have said here, the glaring problems on the O-line are magnified by the absences of Dola and the squirrel. Those two players make Brady’s quick release what it is. Without those two, Brady has to wait for the other players to open up and/or run down the seam for a big play. Against this Jets’ defensive front, with this o-line, you just can’t afford to wait too long (not that there’s anything Brady could have done anyways). Once we get those two hamsters back, we should be fine.

Also, let’s not forget we were missing our two starting safeties. Fitzy was looking like Montana there, and these green rats still needed OT to win. I think we’ll be fine as long as we get the following at or near 100% health:

- Edelman
- Dola
- McCourty
- Chung
- Hightower (not himself since the knee injury)

Perhaps I've been unfair to the guy ...

98.5 just reported, for whatever it's worth, that the Vollmer injury "is not as serious as originally thought" whatever that means.
Just read its an ankle sprain. let us hope its not a high one.

One positive note is that Martin has been playing like a solid #2 or 3 WR. I'm curious what his production will be (and White's) once Edelman and Amendola get back on the field.

The o-line in 2007 was absolutely unreal. Then they decided to collectively absolutely sh.it themselves in the biggest game of the year

All relative I suppose but inactives Sunday could all be injured. Good chance Nink on the list with SeaBass.

If Nink misses a game, it'll be his first since joining the team in 2009.

Talk about durable.
