Lazar: Patriots Lockerroom Teetering on a Mutiny

This is why media people need to watch what they say. Once it is said. It cannot be unsaid.

And if the information is walked back, there is a conspiracy that means it is true but they were forced to do so. No evidence of it being true other than gosh darn it you want it be true that the Patriots made him walk it back.

He absolutely is. He literally said so.

All he walked back was the conclusion not the information

The Patriots took it down and then many hours later he made a comment about the conclusion he drew and how it was misinterpreted.

His walk back was “there isn’t a mutiny” but he never said there was, he said they were teetering on it. That is obviously his opinion as there is no actual event of “teetering”.

That is true. Media only has limited access to the locker room. Lazar isn't a beat reporter. He isn't in there as much as the beat reporters. They guy is more of an analyst.

He is there more than 10-15 minutes a week. Thats for sure.

Because someone spoke to him. This actually isn’t the first time he has forgotten he was an employee and not his former job.

I think it was Ted Johnson on his show was joking/not joking that Lazar was going to lose his job last year if he kept talking like that.

You think that “loving the Patriots” means not wanting them to improve, hire the right people, create a quality roster and a strong culture, but just accepting whatever they do?

Yeah that is definitely the case. I can't remember who said it here (I apologize) but I saw someone mention the fact that Lazar was not always a Patriots employee and so now that he is, he often goes to great lengths to try to prove he is still relatively objective and not compromised by who his employer is. I think that this incident both A) proved that is true, but also B) proved that it is not true, because if he oversteps certain boundaries he will be censored.

Bingo. Anyone thinking that what Lazar said isn't close to the truth is wrong. My guess is Maye is doing really, really well in practice and starting to own the defense. Thus they are wondering whey he isn't playing, and thats on both sides of the ball.

Thats really the real thing here. Maye is showing out in practice and gaining the respect of the defense and offense at the same time.

Edit to add, thats because Maye is a freaking STUD and is now showing it.

I think it's difficult for Mayo because it flies in the face of the idea that the "best player will play", one of his core tenets. You also have the issue with him continuing to play Stevenson despite the fumbles. So some players may be losing faith in Mayo if he is saying one thing but doing something else in various different situations.

If you were Mayo and you knew your players were getting frustrated over Maye not playing and your GM/OC/(and possibly) owner were telling you not to play him, what would you do? Does Mayo even have the authority to decide whether to play Maye?

I have listened to PFW in Progress/Patriots Unfiltered for 20 years now and Evan has been a nice addition to the show (I know this whole thing stems from his other podcast for the Patriots) but Evan definitely gets fired up and sometimes doesn't seem to choose his words carefully enough when he is. I do think he truly means "mutiny" but if he had it to do over again he would choose another word to describe it so it wouldn't have gone viral in the Patriots Twittersphere.

I just hope this doesn't put Patriots Unfiltered under the microscope from anyone up top because I love that podcast.

Neither group seems to be doing a very good job at this time, but the answer isn't to put Maye in behind a line that can't block a ham sandwich and with receivers who couldn't get open in the middle of Boston Common at midnight in February.

The reporting was irresponsible. If you have access to the locker room because the team gives it to you, you follow the oldest rule in the book: what happens in the locker room stays in the locker room. Players have to know that they can blow off steam and not make news. I think there are many occasions in many seasons when players in most sports say things and even fight among themselves in the locker room, but also know that they have a job to do and get past it. I'd fire Lazar.

Mayo has to show he is in charge or should be gone after the season...but that will never happen for many reasons. Anyone who cares to do so can find my post after Mayo's appointment in which I said that I didn't think he was right for the job, that the last thing a team in transition needed was a "players coach" and that Mayo would only prolong the agony by an additional two or three years as the Franchise tries to move on from 20 unprecedented seasons.

That "Displaced Bostonian" guy on Twitter (and I'm sure is on here too) is one of the most pathetic and miserable "fans" on Twitter. He's a sad Bill Bobo who CC'd the team and Stacey James yesterday about this whole thing. Basically he's that dork in class no one likes who reminds the teacher that there is supposed to be a quiz today.

Yep, Mayo f-ed himself with the Maye was better at the end of camp line. It's not hard to say stuff without saying stuff and Mayo hasn't learned that yet. He seems to be getting better at it as the season goes on, but you are correct. A leader cannot say one thing, and do another.

Of course this is predicated on the idea that Maye is doing very well in practice. Or at least showing something that other players are having to stop and think about what's going on. Then you have Bedard basically saying Maye sucks right now and isn't better than Johnny Foxborough.

This is how I’m interpreting Lazar’s comments:

Players are getting upset because they are babying Maye while they are going out there in a losing effort. They know Brissett has no business being out there as the starting QB and doesn’t give them any chance at all unlike some posters here thought during the off-season.

Bob’s hand will be forced quickly to bench Brissett for Maye if the lose to a Hawk Tua less Miami.

So far, this season is going exactly as I predicted with Mayo - a complete disaster. Strong play from Maye is the only thing that could change that.

Watching Mayfield and Cousins last night was truly shocking how fast both of them processed the defense and reacted.

Not always perfect. Mayfield missed seeing Evans crossing with clear sailing for a TD that would have put the game out of reach for Atlanta. Mayfield still executed a positive play, but not the knockout.

Cousins came back and knew where the ball was going and delivered.
