I think you are in for a long season if you are expecting Maye to change plays, and not follow his progressions.
he will follow McD's game plan. period.
McD's game plans for Maye will differ than they were for Brady and Mac, but Maye will follow McD's lead, until he becomes more comfortable in the system.
sure, we all hope Maye develops into changing plays, which will result in a change of progressions. but when live, with 3 seconds to go thru progressions, a young QB is not reading the field. he is following orders.
It will be a long season of blaming the OL because Maye misses big plays and hold the ball too long.

Thats the way it works.

You make things up and argue with yourself, I suppose that is painful.

I’m sorry you don’t understand the game, you’ve become more of a waste of time than ever since you’ve started pretending like you do.
The same old game.

You make make ridiculous statements and then deny that you did.

I never made them, you made them up. You have done that ever since you have been on this board. I used to think you were just ignorant but I’ve learned it’s on purpose.

I'm willing to think he's just had a run of bad luck. As a result, I don't think we know what the heck he is, but we also do not know what he isn't. So you keep him around and see what happens. I know that's pretty unsatisfying, but it happens.

Breaking ankles and getting separation is a wonderful thing and a great skill to have as a WR. You know who was one of the best I ever saw at it that failed miserably in the McDs offense? Chad Ocho Cinco. Part of what made 85 so frustrating to me is if you watched him the man could still play, he was routinely crossing guys up and his footwork was exquisite. I saw SO many screenshots where he was the only one on the field for 15 20 yards. Yet he never amounted to anything close to what we wanted, why?

Andy has it exactly correct this time, it's not just that you are open it's that you need to be open where AND more importantly when you are supposed to be. It's all in the play design. For a QB I'm sure they have something like this every play. At 1.6 to 1.9 seconds look at the 6 yard crosser and see if its open. If not go to the back side slant until 2.3 seconds. Still not open check the 20 yard seam until 2.8 seconds, if feeling pressure hit check down to running back. If no pressure look at 40 yard out and up. In that case the crosser being 10 yards open at 2.6 seconds is irrelevant the QB has already moved on and it's not that he missed him it's that it's impossible for anyone to track 5 moving targets at NFL speed all at the same time. They have to be looking somewhere and different routes are designed to get open at different times. You can not look at a screenshot and determine anything without knowing the play call and the responsibilities. Also IMO Williams is not as wide open easy 6 as people are making him out to be, there are two deep safeties, one still over the top on the left side. That would have been a hell of a throw, Maye can do it of course, but still a dime required.

All of this said I like Kyle Williams and I expect good things down the line. As soon as he can figure out how to get open when and where he is supposed to get open I think he is going to be a damn good #2 WR that gets you 2-4 big plays a game. I just don't think we will see it for the first half to 3/4 of the year while he learns.

Did you notice the graph where they showed maye is not looking at left side due to PTSD on blind side after being manned by lowe and other alternates last season .

He needs to get back the muscle memory back and let go of bad habits. More than receivers Maye form is of slight concern.
If he has PTSD, then he'd be looking to his left side to ensure nobody is coming after him.
We might need to pump the brakes a bit on playoff aspirations and hope maye matures and plays half decent or like a top 15 qb.
Agree. I think the team is ready to contend for the playoffs, but it all comes down to Maye. He only had limited snaps and QB's are going to miss wide open guys from time to time.

yeah, sure, if you want it to...

basically, for me - OTAs, Mini Camp, Rookie Camp, T. Camp you are installing what needs to be installed, working on basics, filling holes in the roster that are spotted etc...

the Preseason starts the process of breaking down the 90 man roster looking at cuts and bubble guys... the exhibition games give the staff the opportunity to watch players in game like situations to make these evals... thats the difference...
I was just kidding. Basically, the distinction between training camp and the pre-season is of no consequence.

yup. semantics. agreed.

One thing of consequence seems to be train8ng camp is open to spectators and preseason practices aren’t.

Williams was running a clearout to pull that safety over, all the other routes were on the right side, that's where the reads were. I really think Maye never considered Minnesota would blow the coverage that badly.

I'm guessing he'll at least peek over there from now on though.

I certainly hope so.
