This is all a great reason to think this draft class is horrible.... we have to debate the first round qualificaions of a guy that only started in his senior season (minus the first three games).

We would of highly debated Cassel's first round qualifications, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be picked there.

You know you're old when you know what He-man is!

lol who u callin old? I have pics of me and my brother dressed up as He-man and Skeletor.

I can see the resemblance. But I imagine He-Man's 40 would be well under 3.50

Anywho this kid looks to have the skill set to cover, so I'd say he's worth the risk early in the 2nd.

This whole We're going to take a LB in the first rnd reminds me of '07. We were going to draft David Harris for sure in the first rnd. As everyone knows didn't happen. I don't think you can every really figure out who or what position BB will draft..... Watch him draft an O lineman few people here ever heard of, TE or a D-lineman. Over the last ten years it seems the majority of the time an area of need could be screaming (like LB) and will go in a different direction. I just hope we draft Barwin somewhere, i fear BOR will have to be talked off a ledge, or a bridge.

Not to mention Vrabel actually had some college production. One of my personal missions is to debunk the myths of how the "Patriots System" is responsible for the production of certain players. Vrabel and Bruschi were great college players, not scrubs. Some of Vrab's highlights are below.

Mike Vrabel - Official New England Patriots Biography

I hope this makes some people feel better, from a NFL.com chat
NFL Live Chat

"Clay Matthews Jr., LB, USC
My weight going into college was around 220 pounds, but somehow it gets exaggerated to make a better story. I was a late-bloomer physically, and then with getting into the weight room so much during college, I got to where I am today."

He really is fluid and showed a lot of variety is his pass rush during the senior bowl. He schooled Oher a couple of times.

In the new age of the NFL a player who can play in space, rush the passer and play special teams is more valuable than some dinosaur that resembles Ted Johnson.

If the Pats draft him the have made significant steps to improve 3rd down and red zone situations (in case you missed it a major area of concern in 2008). I include the upgraded secondary and return of Thomas in this equation.

They may have taken Harris with the 28th pick but decided to trade that for Mayo the next year

This draft is a lot like the 2006 draft when another OLB (McGinest) left and we all wanted Manny Lawson. It makes a lot of sense to draft a OLB this year, but no doubt BB will surprise us.

I think you are right, BB will surprise us. I personally think that BB is targeting CB Butler in the first round.

I don't get the Matthews love, this kid had 4.5 sacks.

I wonder what Kiper will say about him testing positive for steroids

He is big, but not THAT big.

I was that big before.

And all I took was andro...

No, andro ISN'T a steroid either.

It's a link away.

Maybe a cousin though.

Lets see here...

2. Curiously went from 166 lbs. to 240 lbs. over the last four years

5. Rumors of steroid use by teammate Brian Cushing has spill over to Clay.

Apparently there was a little more than spillover...

If you notice the pats usually end up picking someone that no one predicts. I'm not sold on connor barwin I don't like all the hype he is getting. Reminds me of vernon davis and vernon gholston with everyone on their nuts, where they are really athletic but didn't adjust to the pro game that well. Well so far anways. Barwin did put up good pass rushing numbers so if they do draft him he could play third downs and play some te as well. Since ben watson loves to drop balls.
