I don't know, it's tough to say. I thought he did pretty well for a guy who had to play out of position after he moved over following a couple of key injuries at the time (I believe Ted Johnson tore a bicep or something to that effect). But I remember watching him and how quick he was, and I recall him breaking up passes that you wouldn't have thought he would have gotten to, with pretty decent closing speed for a guy his size. He was also decent inside and he did a respectable job at the point of attack. He didn't reach the level that Mayo did in his first season, but let's face it, not may players do.
We'll never know the type of player he could have been, but from what I can see he's involved in a Youth Football camp now. Have to respect a guy who takes time out of his life to help others. And as I said I respect him for walking away so he can play with his kids instead of taking a chance on ending up in a wheelchair.
Katzenmoyer had enormous physical skill. He was a total beast at Ohio State, he may have had the best soph-junior seasons I ever saw a LB have. But a disappointing Sr season.
He did a very good job here as a rookie.
I was very enthusiastic about what he was going to be able to do in a BB defense. Unfortunately that never came to be.
I thought he would have been a terror as a 3-4 OLB, a Merriman/Ware type role.
I don't know if he would have ended up their because he had inisde skills as well, but thats what I was looking forward to seeing and never had a chance to.
