Keep expectations for Maye in 2025 realistic

I want to give him a couple more games this season to see what his trajectory is.
But, one very concerning thing is his accuracy. That's not just a "bad game" thing - that's a honed skill.
Also, if their excuse was the little warm rain, we're in for a bad 2nd half of the season. That rain should have affected Vegas, not us!

One game doesn’t count as anything. If it does than Drake Maye is on pace for roughly 5,000 yards. Even if it’s sloppy everybody would be happy with the fact he has shown the ability to be dynamic on offense:

I know I am pretty predictable on this, but we should have modest expectations not only for Drake but for the team as a whole. The post-draft giddiness with its delusions of playoffs and double-digit wins was just that: delusional. I was disappointed in game 1 not because they lost but because I didn't really see much in the way of the incremental improvement I was looking for, except for the o-line, which was at least modestly competent, a legit step up from last year's **** show. I was disappointed , but I'm not gonna go into a big tailspin about it, because my expectations were modest going in. Neither, after a disappointing loss am I going to join in the despair over Drake as Bust, nor insist that Josh be run out of town on a rail. A negative overreaction at this point would be as silly as the positive overreaction was after what seemed a promising draft. Maybe they stink - again - but i doubt it, and there certainly isn't enough evidence to prove that that is so, no more than there was evidence that all was well, everything fixed, a mere few weeks ago.

That’s mighty big of you. What’s the plan if you don’t like his “trajectory” after a few games. Are you going to cut him? Going to picket 1 Patriot Place until they trade him to the Jets? Are you going to become a Jet fan? Or, are you going to be on here littering every thread with your ‘I told you so” reminders.

What an awful fan base this has become.

I believe fans are impatient because for twenty years they never needed to worry about the QB position. Brady did everything right. There weren't many weaknesses. Sometimes, you can find yourself taking that for granted after awhile. So Maye making mistakes fans aren't used too stands out more.

Once said QB left, the Patriots had issues finding a franchise quarterback. Just like half the league has issues finding that guy. Maye will not be Tom Brady. Even expecting him to be Allen is unrealistic. But If he can have a career like Matt Ryan or Stafford, the team would be in a great spot going forward.

All in all, patience is required. You don't want to give up on a QB every two years and draft another. Give that guy a few years, it not work out, then draft another. Because then you are the Browns.

Note: I am using "you" in the general sense. Not specifying fans/organization.

Damn, when you put it that way I kind of just want to see them keep checking it 50 times a game. Trial by fire.

Realistically though it should be on Josh to balance things a little and then Maye needs to be more efficient based on that balance. Then he probably doesn't keep a 5,000 yard pace but should improve his TD to int ratio.

If Maye doesn’t work out Lonergan from BC might be the real deal. Would be a great story if we get him.

At worst Maye will likely be a decent QB, mid-pack. Not terrible really. But I sure hope the find someone to deal with his sloppy footwork, and gets him to learn to scan the field, he never saw some open receivers. I do think there may be some part of trying to prove himself. But I agree with the folks that say we cant expect too much, there are way to many changes on this team and Im guess if Vrabel was honest he would tell us its going to take time to figure out who the real “players” are. Some of us remember the 80’s and 90’s so Im ok with being patient.

I think we need to have 3 QBs on team and QBs should be backup level only if we have our franchise QB .

If not, just get two young QBs - one with good mechanics , decent arm talent , many years of starter QB experience at college level / backup to serve as backup 1 and a late round flyer on a developmental high potential QB like Milton . When you have these 3 , it serves as a reminder to the incumbent i.e Maye that he is still under evaluation and could be replaced if he does not scale up. There has to be some fire that needs to be lit under his belly.

Maye just got too entitled I would say.. antithesis of what Vrabel preached.
