I love it when BB explodes but last night wasn't one of those times.

I need to do some homework and understand the dynamics of that rule better as it made zero sense, totally screwed the Pats and rewarded DEN

DEN is out of timeouts. DEN player gets injured. Clock continues to run. OK. I get that.

Seems that in that situation the team with possession is a) awarded a TO or b) given 10 more seconds to play with or c) unsporsmanlike conduct...15 yards and auto 1st down.
