I think of him as one but I'd say the only way he has a chance is if he breaks a few Jerry Rice playoff records. He'd need another 2-3 playoffs to get the Receptions most other stats would take even longer. He’s gonna get stiffed by the Hall of Fame because he doesn’t have the regular season numbers unless he plays at an elite level for a few more years.
Big change from all the “he’s fallen off” noise from earlier this year. Thank God
He's not a Hall of Famer, won't even get a sniff like Welker will, and that's legitimate. Tremendous player but not an all-time great. Two thousand yard seasons and a career high of 7 TDs. The likes of Stevie Johnson, Amani Toomer, Joey Galloway, Donald Driver, and Terry Glenn were more prolific in the regular season and none of them are Hall of Famers. Compares to a Keenan McCardell with a shorter career or Pierre Garcon or someone like that.
Patriots HOF for sure though. His stats belie how much he's meant to this team.
His contributions in the playoffs will garner votes. He's the 2nd most productive WR all-time in the playoffs with a number of super clutch moments. Those moments will sway some voters.
In his five years as a consistent starter he's averaged approximately 1000 yards a season. If he has a couple more seasons left at that production, his regular season numbers won't drag him down enough to offset his playoff excellence. Voters will remember him as a major reason for Patriots titles.
