Well, we have no other option

Florio on PFT offers the following opinion: " Judge Saylor's assessment of the lawsuit hints strongly of an award of litigation costs and other penalties against Seth Carey, the Maine lawyer who signed the civil complaint." Translation: "Bothering the court and taking up its taxpayer-funded time with this sort of weak, frivolous **** is going to cost you, you moron."

I was hoping that the lawyer, when he heard the news, would ask the judge how much Goodell and his thug monkeys paid the judge to quash the suit.

Hey... in for a penny, in for a pound, eh?

A travesty of justice. Don't give up! This is bigger than a draft pick. Bigger than the Pats. Bigger than the NFL even. This is for American Justice!

Still weeks to go before the draft. Time for appeals and demonstrations.

It can be done. Look at Marshall winning his civil case. We all have faith in you NE.

You're ruining The Wonder Years

Commissioner Roger Goodell should go right to f++king jail!

I'll be this is what Seth daydreamed about among other things.

Seth dreams: "Little unknown Lawyer from Rumford Maine, takes down NFL and become NE hero"

Reality: "Puppy beating delusional nut bag gets tossed out of court and becomes NE punch line"

Yeah, glad it was tossed out quickly. It was pretty sad. But every fanbase has overzealous (nutty) portions they have to deal with. Heck, sure are plenty in NY/NJ.

Kinda crazy if ya think about it though. This case was obviously ridiculous, but if you're an NFL fan these days, you almost have to have a good understanding of the legal system. Sad state of affairs. Hopefully things can be changed soon so the NFL can handle its own issues in-house.

I'm a huge football fan and feel there's plenty decided that's very important. But it is still just football. Doesn't belong in our court system.

@MassPats38 mentioned this was a possibility. I hope the judge penalizes Seth and not the Plaintiffs he listed in the filing. Is it up to the judge to decide who pays the penalties?

No idea. The whole thing was stupid from the get-go. Like the Jets fan(s) suing over Spygate.

As I read the order, I believe this is the Judge actually trying to give the parties an out before things get real ugly (by denying the motions without hearing or response from the NFL, there would be no real work required). The case can be voluntarily dismissed before the NFL responds, which would be the intelligent thing to do. The Judge could have done far more damage by letting the hearing move forward, in which case the NFL would have spent plenty of hours preparing for the hearing.

My experience has been attorneys get specifically targeted with sanctions when their actions in court prolong a case (wasting time). In general, the frivolous action sanctions are directed to the parties. Judges have substantial discretion in how cases are managed, so I don't see any reason the Judge could not direct the penalty against the attorney of record. It is the fact this was filed by a licensed attorney rather than a non-attorney that makes it more likely to be sanctioned (lawyers should know better than to bring frivolous or vexatious litigation).

Hopefully, this cast hears the warning and voluntarily dismisses this mess. If they don't, then I won't lose any sleep over the predicament they find themselves in when NFL attorneys respond.

Good point, I don't recall seeing the Rats fans reacting like this when Goodell stole $100,000 from the Rats for tampering.

That should be an example for us all to follow.

Just happy that I don't have to see this on the news...nevermind.

The Seth Carey motto, "Any Publicity is good Publicity".. how much does it cost to file a petition such as this, how much does it cost to put an ad on the 6:00 PM News??? I bet the initial is less expensive, and gets a wider range of coverage...

The way things are going in the Goodell years, it's a matter of time before we see the ads during every game...

"If you've got a favorite team, you've got a lawyer..."

This lawsuit was a bad idea on so many levels. Sports media is going to have a field day with this.

It sucks that this injustice of the league stealing our picks is going to stand and that the best we can hope for is that (an apparently biased) CA2 will kill any remaining possibility for a Brady suspension.

What sucks even more is my inability to tune out this ridiculous excuse for a "professional sport."
