Doesn't surprise me that it was the Redskins of all teams to spring for this kind of money. Also doesn't surprise me that the Panthers weren't willing to pay anywhere in the neighborhood of that.

If BB let Law walk sadly Butler will be no different

Ty Law was 31 years old and was gonna be a $12.5m cap hit (cap was $85.5m in '05) and only played 7 games before going on IR in '04 which the Pats went on to win the SB that year without him.

Sure but our pass defense was hard to watch til Revis and now Butler.

So who is given up a 1st round pick to get him? Because he's restricted, he'll get slapped with a 1st round tender which is around $4m for '17.

Also who says Butler will be looking for $14m. Ever think he may give a discount to the team that gave him a chance when every other one didn't

Sure, lots of players have given discounts to the patriots. That's the way the NFL works.

There was Braschi and there is Brady, and there is ????

You might as well say goodbye to him right now, if you're not going to bother even approaching the market.
The only time to get him for $10M or less is now. He get some money now, and he gets injury protection.

Braschi? When did he play? Is he in the Pats HOF?

OBJ vs Josh Norman two times a year? Finally a reason to put the NFC East on all those primetime games.

Discount doesn't mean significantly less, I'm talking merely a couple of million per year.

Instead of $14m, $11-$12m.

Yes Ryan may re up at 6 to 7 mill and id be tempted to pay it but I would also be tempted to draft 2 dbacks and between them Roberts Coleman and any other diamond in the roughs rebuild the secondary.
I dont think Butler will get more than 11 but 11 is too much I dont go higher than 7 mill a year.
In my eyes Malcolm is not an $11m AAV player but the market will take him there.

Respect. But this guy was undrafted out of a school that I doubt many of us heard of until he made the biggest play in (likely) in SB history, while being a very late decision to even carry on the roster. This same player went on to prove that play in the SB (which was the biggest of many big plays he made in that game, including the tackle after the ridiculous catch) wasn't a fluke by having a Pro Bowl season. Yeah, I don't think he's in a rush to give out discounts on his first opportunity for a huge contract. Players are not any more loyal to teams as teams are to them, unless you're Tom Brady and a select few others in history. Even Montana finished with KC.

redskins just signed him. glad he's going to a ****ty team in the nfc.

...a division winner with a QB that makes the fewest mistakes of any that play in the division.

Skins are a better team this morning.

Agreed, but the Jets were also a better team the morning after they (re)signed Revis. Now the Jets are having cap difficulties due to signing Revis (an aging CB) to that gigantic deal. We haven't seen the real contract details yet, but the question is whether Snyder has yet again thrown future cap considerations out the window in order to make a big splash with a very good but aging player.

Personally I think the contract is absurd and Norman is not an elite cover guy but that's besides the point. He's very good and has the ability to transition to safety. He's an excellent pickup .

My reaction was to the poster implying that the Skins stink when IMO they are the best team in the division and have the best coach. They should go 11-5ish next year.
