Charlie did call plays that sometimes made absolutely no sense to the observer but clearly the body of work justified it.

This is a general idea that I think is a hallmark of every great coach and innovator. They HAVE to have a few head scratching moments every now and then, because if you're never trying something wacky that fails, you're probably never pushing the envelope far enough into new territory. As a result, sometimes you overthink yourself and it backfires (happens to BB on occasion too). But I'd much rather have someone who's always thinking than someone who plays it safe and goes stagnant.

Every team's coordinators suck, according to some significant portion of the fan base. It comes with the job.

It's easier to blame the coordinator than the talent on the field.
