Patriots Player Departure Jonnu traded to ATL

Our cap situation is improved by $3.7m in 2023 as compared to keeping Smith (according to Miguel). The dead money just reflects prepaid bonus money - we owned that cap impact whether he stayed or left.

The 2024 cap impact is reduced by another $12-18m (everyone's saying 18, but I think it might be only 12). This can impact FA right now, as we can push that much more into 2024 to make room for signings now.

Plus we get a 7th round pick, #25 of the 7th round I believe, and we previously didn't have a 7th rounder.

So all in all, this was a pretty good exit from a really bad contract.

The Atlanta HC was the OC at Tenn where Smith had his best days, so Smith was willing to renegotiate the rest of his contract to revive his career there. That's the main reason this deal happened in a way where we could dump all of his remaining contractual salary.
I heard this morning on talk radio that Denver is making sutland and juedy available.. patriots are supposed to be in on juedy.. I can definitely see this happening.. if we can trade for juedy now you have a young good WR that will instantly be the number 1.. and everyone else can be pegged into place..

I'm glad Jonnu is gone but he leaves behind a $12.8 mil dead cap hit. Just a completely awful signing.

Now filling that TE1b spot is going to be very important. Dalton Schultz is probably a pipe dream but Henry and Schultz would be a TE duo worth talking about.
I'd like mike gisikie, with hill and Waddle he gets forgotten about in that potent offense.. he made nothing but plays against us...

One of BB's biggest free agent blunders finally taken off the books. Goodbye Jonnu. Sorry you just couldn't fit in with the offense. Better luck with your new team!
We could erase that this even happened if we traded for LJ... just my wish I know it won't happen..

Schultz is the better TE but I'll take Gesicki too. He's a big target but I think his hands may be a little iffy.
Yeah.. Schultz is good.. maybe it's becuase gisikie is in the division and all he did was make plays against us at times.. furthermore any TE has done so against us for some reason

If I'm an NFL player I'm signing up with Jimmy Gs agent.. that is the agent I would want.. you wouldn't have to have any ALL pros, superbowl wins or even have to play a full season.. you would get multiple contracts, and not have to play a full season..
Famously that would be Don Yee, who was also Brady's agent. It was a bit controversial that both men had the same agent back in the days when JG possibly replacing Brady was a thing.

I do remember that!! wasn't there also something to the effect of BB also himself having the same agent as someone on the team?

Don yee, yes he should be sought after..

If your a starting QB and you have been injured and missed seasons or most of the NFL seasons since 2017 with no all pro selections or superbowl rings.. traded to ready made teams.. I'll get you multiple multi million dollar contracts..

And the electric Lamar Jackson can't even get one contract...

Makes me wonder how Brian Flores's collusion trial is going, sigh.

Clearly the NFL is circling its wagons when it comes to Jackson.

They know if anyone hands him the fully guaranteed Watson/Haslam contract the gig is up on salaries going forward.

100% pure collusion, says I.

I'm with you on that... oh without a doubt there's always been collusion in the NFL.. on many levels...(I'll bet you besos buys the commanders... )

Lamars issue is he wants more guranteed money his camp stated they want more guranteed than Watson..

I'll take the jannu smith insult back, Dorsett had 20 receptions for 257 yards and 1 TD. In 2022-23

How did that Dorsett news even get out... it's comical... lol

I've been thinking the same.

The Watson contract was beyond irresponsible.

We clearly missed here but...bye bye...for sure we had so many greatest TE in Foxboro...he is not in this glorious list...

You’re probably thinking of Bielema. Basically, Arkansas accused Belichick of negotiating a small salary for Bielema (to offset less of his Arkansas money) via their shared agent to avoid leaving a paper trail that could be discovered in court.

See I knew someone would help me with that!! Thanks @Sciz much appreciated..

Yes and he ended up bringing a suit against the organization? Well the wonderful FA we are having continues.. blockbuster announcement.. myles Bryant was tendered...

We gained $4m in cap space. And we clear a huge cap hit from next year, which means we can push any new signings INTO next year.
This makes a TE in the draft much more realistic. Luke Musgrave, Oregon, is an interesting TE - 6'6", 250, good blocker. Should be there in the 4th round.

Lamar should have gotten a contract after year three, he was an MVP in 2019.

But like an idiot he decided he didn't need an agent... seriously, his mom is negotiating on his behalf.

Talk about colossal blunders. So not only did he not get a new deal after year three, but the past two years (years 4 and 5) he has only played 12 games apiece.

The NFL doesn't have to collude against Lamar, literally no team wants to give him a fully guaranteed contract... his own team doesn't want to give him half that guaranteed. Why would they? He has one playoff win on his resume, he hasn't been healthy in two years, he can't pass for accuracy so if he does lose his legs he becomes an average backup at best.

The idea that teams are colluding not to pay him is absurd. He screwed himself, and now he's not good enough or healthy enough to write his own check. Collusion... lol... yeah right.

Not after his combine... He's a Day 2 if not a Top-50 guy now, along with Washington, Kincaid, Kraft & Mayer, maybe Laporta too...
