Jones Should Be Greatly Improved In 2022

It’s your forum. You do all the work and invest all the time. I’m simply saying I personally would of carved out the cancer a long time ago.

In 2014, there were mods here (schmessy? I don’t remember their exact name) that would literally push Brady-trade, Tom-sucks conversations while simultaneously making criticism of Jimmy G a regulated offense.

I was literally forbidden from calling Jimmy G Janeane Garofalo.

There was a consensus forming around a ton of ****ing trolls that Tom was finished and Jimmy G was the future and it was ****ing miserable / super low IQ / highly antagonistic.

The anti-Tom train had its skids greased for a long time, well before he went to Tampa.

A lot of straight up trolls figured out they could come to this forum, literally just push Steeler/Colt/Bronco fan narratives about Tom, trash him 24/7, and then wrap themselves in Belichick “fandom” as a phony ass shield to spew their garbage from.

Never stopped.
Gizelle?

Keyshawn Johnson is ripping Mac Jones today.

A guy that cries publicly when his mediocre QB gets injured should never rip Mac Jones.

This is what Keyshawn said:

“Do I think the Patriots can get to a Super Bowl with Mac Jones as their starter?” Johnson replied. “Here’s what I will say about Mac Jones: He’s a good little piece to what New England wanted to do. When he had to play quarterback, it didn’t work out in their favor. They protected him as much as they could and got enough out of that. And because he looks the part like the New England quarterbacks of the world — the Scott Zolak types — they think they got something.

There are a number of folks here that might agree.

Kind of bizarre that he mentioned Zolak instead of Brady though. That line of Mac criticism usually (understandably) attacks those who point out similarities of Mac's game to Brady's.

He said more but that was enough. It certainly is a rip to liken Jones to Zolak, especially when Keyshawn's QBs were Trent Dilfer and Testaverde, and the guy cried like it was a big deal when Vinny was hurt.

Mac Jones will be better than both of them.

This is how you get attention, right?

Zolak was a career backup with 50% accuracy lifetime. He ran a 5.0s 40. Much better than Brady's 5.28s, but then Brady makes Mac (4.68s) look like Usain Bolt (4.22s).

Both those guys were career 55% passers. Dilfer never had a season statistically close to Mac's rookie year, and in all 17 seasons Vinnie only had one year superior to Mac's, his ProBowl magical but partial (12-1) 1998 season with Parcells' Jets. The one Keyshawn remembers.

Rookie Mac is already better than them.

Johnson is sour grapes
He was all in on Cam in training camp over Mac
Jones won the job and Cam continued to prove he was washed up
Keyshawn has to big an ego to admit he was wrong so he doubles down to detract from his lack of knowledge

I think it's possible Mac Jones doesn't "greatly" improve ever. Not saying he won't improve because I believe he will and he'll play great at times. However, it's a matter of what I consider his ceiling to be, which isn't likely a great improvement on what he delivered this season. His arm strength isn't likely to improve to where it will be an asset and his mobility isn't great. He'll be above average in other areas (mostly mental) and his accuracy will be a strength.

He had a good rookie season that mostly mirrored the team's season... shaky start (2-5, 7 TD's, 6 INT's), strong middle (7-0, 9 TD's, 2 INT's), weak finish (1-4, 8 TD's, 7 INT's). For Jones to make a noticeable jump in year two he'll need a legit #1 WR. Chris Godwin or Allen Robinson (for examples), Bourne & Myers, plus Henry at TE, and an above average complementary run game (like this season), and Jones will undoubtedly improve. He's not going to turn into Josh Allen however and it's probably not realistic or fair to think his ceiling could be that high. Allen after all looks like he's trending toward being an annual MVP candidate. I think after next season we'll be able to more reliably come up with a comp for Jones.

I'd also like the team to bring in a real OC to replace McDaniels. That would help.

Every time I see this video clip I think how totally weird it is for someone to do that. A friend or relative taking video of a person happily going bonkers makes sense, but doing it as a selfie? I don't know if "narcissistic" is the right word, but it's pretty odd.

Like that freak with the squirrel gloves in front of us with his heroin addict mommy...no THEY were odd. If the US Mint ever made a 3 dollar bill THAT freak would be on the front...

This ^ is what Mac needs to work on more than anything. He's not an amateur anymore, he needs to prepare his body for the rigors of a 20 game season. At his height he should be weighing roughly 220-225 pounds of lean muscle mass.

Beyond that he can only get better mentally and maturity wise, he has all the tools to be great, he can make all the throws. It's up to him now.

I think his arm strength will improve. It's not like the guy is manning in his last year. His arm is below average but people are really over exaggerating how weak is is

Also who cares about mobility. Both QBs in the Superbowl this year are not mobile guys. And the not mobile guy win last year

People act like Jones could never get much stronger and faster. But the guy is doughy and clearly not in his pique physical shape. From a physical standpoint, he has a lot of potential to grow if he dedicates himself. Now if he was in great physical shape, you might have a great argument that won't improve all that much.

I have been doing CrossFit for nearly a decade. I have seen my fair share of young guys who come into the gym out of shape (and I am not talking about really fat guys, but just guys who have doughy bodies like Jones) and barely able to lift an empty bar (exaggerating a bit here, but not by a heck of a lot) and within a few years being able to lift 225-250 lbs over their heads. I look at Mac Jones that way. If he works at it and puts on muscle mass and loses the baby fat, he could potentially go to have a good to very good arm. And then you add improved throwing mechanics.

We saw a huge leap in arm strength by Joe Burrow from year one to year two and he came into the league much better shape than Jones. So we can see it with Jones. And Burrow did it mostly by improving his mechanics. Jones can improve by getting into shape and improving his mechanics. So the room for growth is higher at least on paper.

Alot of people acting like how you play your rookie year defines your whole career and that's it you never improve. And overall Jones had a great rookie year. I'm sure Jones and the Patriots staff know what his weaknesses are and what they need to work on.

Most rookies look clueless their rookie year. Look at Josh Allen or Trevor Lawrence. Doesn't mean Lawrence will be bad.

Get him in touch with Tom House. I would NOT trust Joe Judge in helping Mac. Not even happy with Joe Judge coming back.....
OBrien way better than Judge.
