Jonathan Jones should be ready for offseason workouts

IIRC, it turned out to have been a broken foot.

Probably will be the starter opposite Gilmore this year.

A really underrated injury in the Super Bowl unfortunately. He would have had the slot instead of Chung, and Chung would have played Richards position, and Richards would have been on the bench. And Jones generally played well in the slot last year; no specific reason to think Agahlor would have schooled him consistently, but you never know.

JJ is better than Rowe. I hope they can find better but I think the $ should and will go to the front 7 and I wouldn't expect a rookie to immediately start.

And hightower is better than Rowe. So? Rowe is much better than Jones as an outside corner.

No he's not. Rowe might be better vs taller guys but JJ is just better inside or out. IMO Rowe is pretty good and a good match up guy for bigger guys but I just think JJ is a better DB. Despite the size I think JJ is actually a better tackler and he has more knack for the pass break up. He actually reminds of Butler hopefully without a backslide and only gets better. (and to be clear reminds me of Butler doesn't mean he's hit Butlers peak yet) .

You certainly make a very good argument, although I’m in the camp that would probably lean towards the idea of keeping him in the slot. The truth is that we’ll likely be seeing him inside and outside, a la Arrington, although hopefully with better results on the edges.

As slot receiver, yes. Outside ? Nope.

Good news. I am a big fan of Jon Jones. I expect him to continue to improve too. Would like to see Bademosi back as well.

In 2016, Rowe and Logan Ryan switched back and forth between the slot and the right boundary.

highly doubt jones would have been tasked with ertz like chung was

Agree that Jones wouldn't have been tasked with Ertz. Disagree that Chung was, at least initially. The gameplan had Chung being tasked with the slot receiver, which was typically Agholor. Depending on the defensive personnel, McCourty or Richards covered Ertz. Once this plan wasn't working, the major halftime adjustments were to keep Gilmore on Jeffrey exclusively, and replace Richards with Bademosi. At that point Chung got Ertz. Richards wound up getting playing time anyway because of the subsequent injuries to Chung.

My point is that had Jones been available, the initial game plan may have been different and Chung would have gotten Ertz right away. Or maybe the initial game plan would have been the same - but the adjustment would have substituted Jones instead of Bademosi for Richards. Either way that winds up with Chung covering Ertz for the most part.

it seemed like once chung went down, that was when ertz’s name started to get called.

Ertz name was called all through the game completely independent whether Chung was on the field or not. He was the focus on most third downs and was used close to the actual target in various deeper routes to keep our safety honest. If you at some point rewatch the game you would see his fingers all over the most important conversions. He won the game for the Eagles.

except rowe is in no way a slot guy with weak lateral movement, the play on eli rogers not withstanding

I agree.

Rowe is NOT a slot guy!

When we started Ryan and Butler, Rowe was the first player off the bench. Rowe would come in as one of the 2 outside corners. Ryan would move to the slot.

BTW, Belichick may be fine with what we have plus Bademosi plus a minor free agent. Of course, he will always bring in defensive backs for camp competition and injury protection. He may like both Jones and Rowe.
