John Clayton: Pats Talking with Raiders About Derrick Burgess

Probably worthy of its own thread, but I'm still a few posts short of that...

Clayton also names the Patriots as one of the four teams that he thinks could be interested in Michael Vick:

Vick's next home? Take a guess

Stranger things have happened... wait, what am I saying, no they haven't. Clayton is a buffoon. You don't need Vick to prepare for the dreaded Wildcat. Pats were able to do that with a thin defense and weak secondary in the second dolphins game, just by knowing it was a possibility.

What would we do with Vick? Kick returner?

 Wow, LMAO...He can't be serious.
How much thought did he put into this theory before he wrote this?

He's going for the perfect storm of internet article hits:

Patriots + Vick + Raiders = something for everyone to hate = profit!

Clayton has a "no rational thought" clause in his ESPN contract.

Just imagine though if NE signed Vick for return specialist and to be used in NEs new version of their own Wildcat :)

If the Patriots use the Wildcat it will be called the WildPat.

You will probably see the Wildpat as you call it this season - Edelman could become a player in this

Im thinking the same thing!! Edelman will probably take a WR spot on the roster and we will use him as the WildPat QB!! I think they will make Edelman a slot receiver as well!

Way to go guys on keeping this thread alive but going off topic. What the hell does Derrick Burgess have to do with the wildcat?

Once again, this seems like another rumor that gets us excited but fails to get executed.

If they use it I would expect it in Foxboro against the Dolphins and maybe a preview of it in week 1 prime time against the Bills. - I think we see it only a few times..if it works the first time that is

Yes, we did go off topic, but I think Burgess will be a Patriot! If not, its just a smoke screen to get one of our division rivals to grab him. Either way, we need to add a Pass Rusher and Burgess is the cheapest. If we had the money for Peppers, then Peppers would be here. I honestly think Burgess will be a Patriot by the end of the week. Remember we still have a couple months till training camp and alot can happen, but i would rather see Burgess here now to participate in OTA's!!

Yeah,We got a bit off course when Vick was mentioned :)

Burgess is pretty fast but he would not be a good contributor to the wildcat formation :)

I concur, I think Burgess is the answer to the WildPat :D

Or was used to drive up the price another team offers up for him...

His Career Stats:
Derrick Burgess

Sack totals career- 8 years- 47.0 Sacks

Highest sacks total for a season- 2005- 16 sacks

Hes proven as a DE but can he make the switch to OLB. BB knows something we dont so if we get him well BB will mold him!! This guy would be a short term solution because hes already 30.

Already 30? How is that short term? I'm not saying he's going to be playing here for 10 years or anything, but he could very possibly give us 4 more strong seasons, which wouldn't exactly be short term.

To many of the people here, 30 is old, and trading for/signing anyone over 27 is a 'short-term' move. Eh, what can you do...

Who wants a productive 30 year old when you can have a 22 year old who may be productive in 2 or 3 years time?

If you're young enough you're good enough (unless you are young and on the roster currently, in which case you have no upside).

I hear that Derrick Burgess can do things that Patrick Chung can't.

Hypocrisy on a message board? Now you're just talking nonsense ;)
