Yeah. Given the results he gets I'm not complaining, but a TD seems to make him even grumpier, like he's thinking of all the things they did wrong on the play. I certainly don't want him to start emulating Pete Carroll's High School Cheerleader act, but I do wonder what it will take for him to crack a smile after a score...maybe the winning points in NO in a few weeks.

He was busy focusing on the job at hand.

That's all it was. He's celebrated big plays before when he wasn't doing something else at the time.

What is amazing (I still have trouble fully accepting it) is that it IS that simple. He is in the moment.

Has that been a call before - - or did they institute that one special for the game where Brady surpassed his idol?

I was thinking about that on Thanksgiving--the Detroit coach, whatever his name is, was cheering like a little girl about something. Made me think whether there's ever been a cheering guy like that who's ever won anything. Rex Ryan pumps his fist like he's a player. Pete Carroll (I'm talking about winning on the pro level.) Any coach who gets all excited is invariably a loser.

I've always thought the ideal reaction of a head coach is to do the opposite of what just happened, if that makes sense. Big TD on offense? If anything, act grimmer than ever. Setback--turnover, opponent TD, etc? Then act upbeat, clap hands, etc.

Seriously, has a cheerleader-like coach ever won anything? Closest I can think of is Gruden, who didn't cheer like that, just got real intense about everything.

I think just about all GREAT coaches are stone-faced unless the clock reads 0:00.

I remember when Keith Smart of Indiana hit as dramatic a shot as you will ever see to essentially win the national championship game for Indiana University in NCAA basketball in 1987.

People were jumping up and down but Bob Knight didn't crack a smile or respond in any way, not even for one second, until he saw others reacting & celebrating. Then he started yelling at the players that the game was not over, that there was one second left on the clock after Syracuse had called a timeout, that they need to shut up, sit down, and talk about what to do now.

That sort of focus is part of the greatness (whether you like him or not, and not just Knight, but Belichick, Parcells, Shula, Saban, Wooden, coach K, others)

Speaking of great coaches, Bill Walsh skipping off the field after a last second game winning TD, Montana to Rice, when the Bengals stupidly ran a running play instead of punting and giving the 9ers like 2 seconds comes to mind. Couldn't find a Youtube.

It would never happen but it would be so funny if Brady took a knee in the victory formation with Brandon Spikes lined up 15 yards behind him and he did a dance mimicking Lewis's last snap in Baltimore.
