Joe Judge close to returning to NE

This was my guess a few weeks ago. Judge is still getting HC money from the Giants for three more seasons, so he can afford to play the long game and work his way up the offensive side of things rather than accept a career as a lifelong ST coordinator. Achord was hired by the Patriots due to a connection with Judge (I'd guess something related to the state of Mississippi, where they both went to college and started their coaching careers), so he can be there to provide some guidance on STs but I don't think he's about to do anything that puts Achord's job at risk.

Hoping he will work in a dual role like he did when he left...as long as one of those roles is special teams coach, I'll be happy!!!!

Bill wants to jump ahead
It's bizarre that the Raiders hired McMahon so quickly after the interest in Judge was reported, and Lazar said today that Judge to NE had been in the works for a while. Maybe this is overly cynical, but I think they used the Raiders to make it look like a good faith attempt to get a ST coordinator job (which would've offset more of his Giants salary than "offensive assistant" will) in case there's another Bielema/Arkansas issue with contract offsets.

Fat Matt and now Joe Judge. 2 guys who looked like buffoons when running their own team.

Offensive assistant?

Who's gonna be our OC?

We might be going into the season with no OC and no DC. WTF is going on?

My guess is Judge helps out on offense and ST. I feel like if he was gonna be the OC, he'd be the OC, not "Offensive Assistant". Could be wrong, though.

Thinking this through more... Judge was the ST Coach and also Wide Receivers Coach before going to NYG... Who is the current Wide Receivers Coach? Mick Lombardi, who is probably in consideration for the Offensive Coordinator role. I'm wondering if perhaps they intend to give Lombardi a try as the OC without giving him the title right away, and are bringing in a guy like Judge who can help pick up the slack at WRs Coach and also contribute on Special Teams too. They have Troy Brown too who was just also given the title of Wide Receivers/Kick Returners Coach in 2021.

I would still like to see Gase and or Obrein.
As well as some new blood on the staff.

A lot of speculation but BB still has a plan in mind. As much as I dislike de facto coordinators, that could well be what happens.

We could see Gase and or possibly O’Shea or Obrein back.
BB knows how important Macs development is.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bill take a more hands on approach with Mac as well.

One thing that I am very interested in learning about is Judge's influence on our OLine. Mac needs better protection. We've got a great RB tandem. Henry can get open and catch. Smith can catch and run, so his issues could just be misuse or getting more familiar with scheme. Bourne can get open, catch, and run. Meyers can get open and catch. Agholor's game requires a second longer for Mac in the pocket. I think most of our line is expendable, despite how it is rated. A break through receiver or receiving back would emerge quicker with a stout and disciplined line. There are a couple of solid pieces riding the pine already. We need a better LT/LG tandem.
