While you're completely right, I think you need to be a bit more forgiving of guys who have the job of filling 3 hours of air with words.
The tuck rule did not start with New England Oakland, but if you ask 100 football fans, "I'm going to say a term, and say a game you think of," most would say, "Oakland/New England" in response to "tuck rule."
George Brett also probably was not the first player to use too much pine tar, but if you say the words "pine tar" to any sports fan, they will say, "George Brett." Just how sports kind of goes.
