Stephen Neal retiring, Kaczur splitting, Mankins fuming, and maybe losing Light are strong reasons to welcome Woody back to the team.
I dont think Woody has much left in the tank. He ate himself out of his natural interior OL position and now is an injury waiting to happen.

Gholston would'nt be a bad gamble on a one year deal and see what he can do in training camp in the preseason. He's still young and some guys are just late bloomers. Mike Vrabel, Tedy Bruschi and Zach Thomas are just a couple of linebackers that took a couple of years to come into their own.

Replace "welcome Woody back to the team" with "look at some FA OL".
The fact that we have some OL spots to fill doesnt make Woody more than an over the hill guy with injury problems. There are many other players the spot and money would be better spent on.

I agree...Woody is done

Woody's far from done. He's 33 and missed 3 games over the last 3 years. However, he's not a good fit here and never was - which is why BB didn't even make an attempt to keep him. However, Woody will start somewhere next year and the Jets' OL will probably be worse off without him.

At age 33, coming off a major injury, and a history of conditioning issues; saying Woody is far from done is a tad bit optimistic. As you get older it is harder to maintain your conditioning and Woody had significant weight issues when he was in his mid-20s. Now he is in his mid-30s and unable to workout for several months. He could easily gain 30-40lbs while resting from surgery. There is a very good chance that he could be done or at the very least well on his last leg.

O-line is a position where players typically burnout in their early 30s because they are massive in weight and their bodies just wear out because of it. Woody is a heavy lineman (he wasn't in the Jets' version of the Biggest Loser last year with a weight loss competition between him, Sexy Rexy, and Jenkins). I wouldn't be surprised if he never plays another down of football again.

All 3 you named showed they could play pro football, Gholston has been nothing but a complete bust and has showed absolutely no ability to play pro football. I wouldn't waste 5 cents and a roster spot on him, he's useless.

Sorry, didn't watch the HBO show. Anyway, I actually think that OL can play later than most other positions because the position doesn't require athleticism - which is lost with age. As long as they can handle the pounding, they can still play. Maybe I'm underestimating Woody's injury. But he was pretty solid before hurting his knee last year. So if he wants to, I bet he can still start for some teams.
